Dumb BTV/BTV Link functionality question

I'm contemplating adding BTV & BM to the PC we have in our master bedroom, but I was wondering if BTV includes the ability to view recordings that reside on a different BTV system ala BTV Link.

In a situation where you have two BTV systems on an internal network, does anyone know if...

1. one system be used to view recordings that reside on the other system?

2. if this functionality is native to BTV, or would I have to kludge it by having one system store its recordings on a shared drive/folder on the other system?

I apologize in advance if this has been cover already, but I couldn't find any mention of it in any of the FAQs or K/B articles that I came across.

best regards,
Peter

Re: Dumb BTV/BTV Link functionality question

I have three BTV servers, and the recordings made by each are available on all three. All three record locally and I set the folders up like this.

PVR (BTV Server)
PVR Recordings (default recording folder)
\\media\media recordings
\\dvd\dvd recordings

Media (BTV Server)
Media Recordings (default recording folder)
\\pvr\pvr recordings
\\dvd\dvd recordings

DVD (BTV Server)
dvd Recordings (default recording folder)
\\media\media recordings
\\pvr\pvr recordings

You need to share the recording directores and I always use UNC paths instead of network directories.

Re: Dumb BTV/BTV Link functionality question

why use UNC?
I map/mount the network drives and it works fine.

Re: Dumb BTV/BTV Link functionality question

I kept running into different situations where windows would drop the mapped drives. Once windows dropped the mapped drive, you had to either reconnect the drive (if it was just one), or reboot if many (I have content on 6 different PCs with at least three shares per, so that could be a lot of reconnects). With UNC, it just tries again until the source is available.

Because BTV does not reliably work with drive letters. Folders on other machines don't update properly.

I've found this to be a windows issue that impacts BTV, but in any case, UNC is more stable
