How does VIIV effect BTV?

With all the news surrounding Intel's new VIIV platform at CES this week I was wondering how this will effect BTV?

They say it works with Window MCE, but nothing about 3rd party software.

It sounds great to me, but I already have a pretty good investment in BTV software and hardware, I'd hate to have to give it all up for the convience of VIIV.

Any comment?

Does this make any sense or am I crazy?

Dennis

The 2 aren't mutually exclusive you know.

I'd love to answer your question , but I sure don't understand what VIIV is.
It's got all the buzzword, but seems to be nothing else than a video computer "solution" where software and hardware speak to each other, especially with regards to DRM.

If you do understand what exactly VIIV is (other than the marketing hype) I'd love to know.
Seems apart from "technology platform", "digital media solution" and other empty catchphrases it is difficult to know what they actually mean.
It also sounds like a certification scheme where you get to get a cute sticker on your computer... Like my HP Notebook is covered with.

Re: How does VIIV effect BTV?

VIIV is a buzzword... it was originally meant as the name for the intel consumer 64bit revolution figurehead (VI = 6 IV = 4 ... 64... wow) but it's turned into a buzzword for computers that will basically turn on faster. Rumor has it that some kind of hardware recording engine optimized for Vista MCE will also debut on VIIV machines, but no one knows for sure.

never the less, I'm expecting intel to use a very cute sticker for this one. I think I'll be sticking to an athlon64 X2.
