Changing Baud Rate for Serial Tuning

Ok, this new post is an attempt to find out if there is a way to configure the baud rate at which BTV communicates when tuning receivers over a direct serial connection.

First, does anyone know if there is a way to change the baud rate or is it hard coded to operate at 9600,8,n,1 only?

If it can be changed, we need to make sure it's documented somewhere so it is known, and so that users like myself and many others don't pull out what little hair they have left trying to figure it out.

Here's the deal, I and several others have been trying to figure out how to control their Samsung SIR-TS360 receivers so that BTV will change channels over the serial input. I've been able to figure out what the codes are and am able to change the channels using these codes manually through hyperterminal. The problem is that this receiver (and probably several others) only communicate at 57600,8,n,1 and has no provisions for changing the baud rate. Unless there is a hidden service menu that one might be abe to get into to change this setting.

I've set my com ports all to this setting, but BTV when it goes to send the commands to change the channel, it sets the port to 9600,8,n,1. I've connected the output of the controlling port to another port and have verified that when changing a channel from within BTV, the correct Hex string is being sent to be able to change the channels, but is only coming out at 9600 baud. I can not find anywhere to configure the baud rate for serial tuning within BTV and suspect that this is a hard coded setting. VERY BAD! We need to have the baud rate configurable just as we have the choice to select which serial port we want to use to do serial tuning.

With this new found information, I suspect that many currently unsupported receivers (this Samsung SIR-TS360 being one of) for serial tuning could become supported if we had the option to configure the serial port settings, not just selecting the port that BTV uses to serial tune. Makes perfect sense, why not allow for configuring the port if you're allowed to select which port.

Let's get the developers to fix this as soon as possible so that tons more receivers can be serial tuned. That is unless this is already something that can be set and I just can't find where to do it. As another possible option, I've tried to figure out a way to set the serial port baud rate to 57600 at the system level and lock it so that software can't change it, but have not found a way to do that either.

Anyone have any information on any solution to this, please post it here soon as possible.

Re: Changing Baud Rate for Serial Tuning

Ok, I've confirmed that with the Hex commands listed below, entered into a new .rmt file causes channel changes sent from within BTV to come out of the serial port absolutely correct. If I send these Hex commands (listed below) to the receiver from a terminal program that allows for Hex command inputs, the receiver changes channels perfectly!

The only problem is that BTV (I've done some tests and confirmed this also) sends the commands correctly, but appears to be fixed (hard coded) to send them at 9600 baud. The receiver appears to be fixed at 57600 baud. So this is the only reason BTV can't currently control this receiver. We need to get SnapStream engineers to not only allow us to select which port we want to serial tune with, but to be able to select a baud rate. If this is done, BTV will be able to tune this and many other receivers. This is a MUST HAVE update to BTV. I'll be posting this to the wanted/needed features for BTV and hopefully we'll have a fix soon.

These are the Hex codes that work perfectly with the Samsung SIR-TS360
