Displayed date in recorded shows of viewscape

Is there a way change what date information is shown when viewing the recorded shows list in the viewscape? It is really annoying that the date shown isn't the RECORDED DATE.

I would like it to show the record date not whatever the date is that it is showing. If the video doesn't have the recorded date set, then it should show the creation date for the video file.

Is there a way to make BTV do this or get this feature added, as it would be WAY WAY more useful that the current way.

I don't know where it is getting date it is showing, but if you edit the show information and save it, the date will change to the date and time when you saved it. NOT the recorded date.

Can you show us a picture? Maybe when you are editing the file you are loosing the show information. You can put it back in: Simple Show Info Editor (Alpha)

It seems that the only video's that have this problem are the ones that lost their info (due to a problem with autoxvid) and video's that were recorded with BTV. But if I add the recording time manually through web admin, it should show that date and it doesn't...

Something isn't right here.

That program you linked looks cool, but I don't have a network license to use it...

Actually it is worse than that, I think that if you move some files without using the web admin or do a restore from a Ghost image, that date will keep updating to the current date until you actually start watching it...

Re: Displayed date in recorded shows of viewscape

Yes, that's my experience. I have three BTV machines and copy files back and forth. With BTV3, the date was fine. With BTV4, it shows the date they were copied.

It's a bug.

I guess we need to submit this as a bug.

Re: Displayed date in recorded shows of viewscape

Just an update here... I sumitted this as a bug and this was the final response. Although I did request that the date displayed when there isn't a recorded date should be the file create date instead of the date it was added to the database.

Quote:
The "date recorded" is not stored *in* the recording file itself, first because not all formats can do that, and second because it couldn't write that data into a format that *could* store it until the recording was finished (so until then, that datum would be blank, making for a rather clueless FSGUI display). Since it doesn't know the recorded date, it uses the date the recording was added to the library, which is what it does when it's performing recordings.

I have entered a feature request to have the "date recorded" datum, if entered in the Web Admin, display in the Viewscape interface. Please note that I cannot at this time state when this feature may be added to BTV.

Unfortunately, they're wrong. The file system does store created date.

Regardless, how useful is database date? There is a date stored with the file in ALL file systems.

It worked in BTV3.

Indeed, just open up Windows Explorer, right click a file and select properties, Create date is there... Just need to read some programming for dummies book to get the system call to retrieve that info...

Re: Displayed date in recorded shows of viewscape

It seems like a basic idea to use the file creation date stored with the file. I don't really understand using the date added to the data base...

Hopefully this will be added (fixed) in the next release...

Maybe if everyone submits it as a feature request it will get added faster... But I'm not sure how to do that.
