BeyondTV, and Kworld ATSC-110

I bought a Kworld ATSC-110 HD tuner card, in part because it was advertised on the box and the manufacturers web site that it comes with BeyondTV, and states "No subscription fees, ever."

So, I get it home, install in a test system, and the first thing I see when starting up BTV is that I have 30 days left before I have to purchase a subscription! When did the word "ever" get redefined as 30 days?

I'm not looking for an upgrade to BTV 4.0, but I do expect to get what was advertised on the box and the companies web site - a fully functional version of BTV 3.8.

Anybody else run into this problem? Do I need a different serial key or something? The box was sealed, so it doesn't appear as though the key was used by someone else.

Yeah, even says that on the product page here

http://www.kworld.com.tw/en/product/da/004/atsc_110.htm

Sounds like a manufacturers error/marketing speak to me, I would be calling kworld about that. Maybe they meant no subscription fees ever, unless you want program guide info in which case there will be a fee

Not a bad deal for $63 though, didn't know that made a HDTV card this cheap!

Kworld made a Major mistake and printed the Wrong product information.

The application they are distributing is the SE -- or Special Edition of Beyond TV.

It does require a subscription -- just like the other versions of BTV that have been distributed with other tuner cards in the past.

Well, they should probably recall all the existing packages and fix the labeling, and change their site then. ReplayTV made the same "mistake" 2 years ago this month, tried charging extra for the subscription when the boxes were CLEARLY labeled that it was included. A little national press attention and more than a few lawsuit threats changed their minds.

Would hate to see the same thing happen to Snapstream/Kworld. They should really honor the offer as printed on the box for those that request it.

Re: BeyondTV, and Kworld ATSC-110

My Kworld box says the same thing but those particular lines are crossed out with a felt tip pen. Just from personal experience, I know that rarely any hardware comes with full featured software so I was expecting to pay for the upgraded version anyways

Instead of doing a recall, I assume Kworld asked retailers to cross out those particular lines of words. Obviously not all retailers have obliged.

In the case of ReplayTV, they changed their subscription policy but still had thousands of products already out to retailers. They came up with a sticker to place over the "lifetime subscription" claim and gave it to retailers to put on the box. Not all retailers were able or even wanted to do this and word got out you could buy a ReplayTV for cheap AND have lifetime subscription. Replay was at the mercy of the retailers at this point and the retailers knew if they kept the stickers off, they'd sell like mad. In this case, Replay did their best to re-label the products and in NO WAY tried to mislead customers. From day one, you could call ReplayTV to complain and they would honor the lifetime subscription.

Oh yeah ReplayTV also introduced their new PC software today. After looking at it, I'm glad I have BeyondTV
