Video iPOD format Supported?

I am a current BTV customer and I am looking to purchase a video iPOD. However, I would first like to know if any of the formats that BTV supports is supported by the video iPOD. And if not can the file be converted?

thanks for any insight.

Re: Video iPOD format Supported?

The mpeg2 files that BTV creates with hardware encoders can be converted to the iPod format, as it is simply a h.264 mpeg4 file, but BTV doesn't natively do the iPod format on showsqueeze, although I know the iPod has been an item of discussion amongst the developers.

At the present time you'll need a third party app to do it. In the general forum is a discussion regarding the ATI Avivo video converter software, which supposedly converts various video formats to iPod, PSP, and PMC formats.

i use a third party app to convert, but would like showsqueeze to do it automatically to save me time. This would be a great piece of functionality that would be alluring to many new and existing users. please add ASAP!

There is an entry in the blog describing the process:

Re: Video iPOD format Supported?

i use a program for the psp called "psp video 9" to encode the btv files. it works well. What i would like to understand is why can't the developers do a showsqueeze in the video ipod format? it would be a lot more useful than the .wmv format for most i would think.

I'd think there are a lot more windows players machines out there than iPods.

Laptops you take on the road, PMPs, etc.

iPod video is a new thing... Perso I don't get it since there are many players out there that do much better (COWON A2 comes to mind), but each his own.
wmv has existed for a long time now, and can be read by any windows machine, Playforsure and many PMPs even if not Playforsure.
So showsqueezing to wmv needs to stay, even if a plugin of some sort adds iPod support.

I don't know. WMV is pretty handy and sported by lots of devices. Playing on my ipaq is just fine, thank you.

Re: Video iPOD format Supported?

Did anyone ever determine if the BTV will use showsqueeze to make video ipod versions of taped shows? I know that all the techy people love to have alternative formats, but if you want to have non-technical people get interested in BTV and buy it, having an IPOD video conversion process will go a long way.

Re: Video iPOD format Supported?

There is an iPod plug-in available in the BTV downloads section. I'm not sure how well it works with the current iTunes and I have not tried it. You can read more on the link below:
