Question Put harddrives to sleep?????

In the power scheme options, there is an option to turn off HDD's.

I run on 2 drives: Main and Storage.

Could I select this option so that my storage and/or main drive don't have to constantly spin when not in use? How will this affect BTV? is there a way to preserve HDD life/and or power, while maintaing BTV's recording schedule?

Thanks!

Nate

Re: Put harddrives to sleep?????

Turning off HDD is not good. It causes more power ons . Powering up a HDD uses more power and more stress on the HDD . Keeping the HDD from overheating is important to long life HDD . I like keep HDD with room to breath in the case . They do have breathing holes and need cool air in the holes .

Re: Put harddrives to sleep?????

BTV will wake your computer from Hibernate or Standby when it needs to make a recording, so you don't really need to fiddle with Power Options. Just put the computer into hibernate or standby manually when you're finished using it. If you search these forums (mostly the Troubleshooting forum, not this one) for Hibernate and Standby, you'll find lots of info about this.
