Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

My kids tend to mess with things, they got BTV so messed up it took an hour to get it all back (including figuring out what they changed).

I want to remove "settings" from the BTV menu, I'll handle it through the web admin (as slow as it is).

Is there a way to remove that menu entry?

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

I would imagine it'd be an XML edit but found nothing Searching here. Alternately, maybe a feature request for passwording the Settings item in both BTV and BM?

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

Is there a tutorial or some good threads on XML editing for BTV? I've written lots of HTML and some Perl, CSC and CGI so I think I'd be open to tackling this.

Probably should ask that in the BTV Developers forum here....

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

Hmm, this suggestion seems appropriate here because of your issues.

It'd be nice to have an automatic Settings Backup that you could set up. That would backup to a user-determined (these settings would be controlled via the WebAdmin) spot and zipped. Something like mysnapstream.smb (snapstream media backup), it'd backup once every X days, and keep only X amount of days before purging them.

The reason I say this, is that it's not uncommon for user-profiles to get corrupted in Windows, and when this happens, your "shows" list goes the way of the profile. I have 45 shows in my list. It'd be a pain to set them up. Fixing what your kids did would be as easy as going in and "importing" the settings via the WebAdmin.

Although I use Norton Ghost to do my backup, it'd be nice for a built-in utility that did this, even as a backup to my backup

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

I'd really like to know the same, just so I can get rid of the Radio option. After getting XM a couple years ago I don't even want the thought of FM to intrude on my commercial free satellite radio bliss. XM and net radio for life

I tried to see if there was a way to disable the radio tuner from my PVR500, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

So, we agree it'd be great to be able to modify the menus, anyone know how to do it? I spent time in the developer's forum, no "how to" guide visible. The information is probably in there somewhere but it's in bits and pieces, much detective work needed to ferret it out.

Anyone able to help?

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

I think people have brought up the idea before, a "kids mode" where access to certain functions would be password protected

The problem is that while the BTV SDK is great to make add-on and such, it does not allow to add/delete/modify the full screen interface itself, I guess that once the BTV/BM integration is done, it will be different or will not matter as much. OTOH, maually editing the various configuration files (normal BTV folder and hidden folder: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\BeyondTV) might lead to interesting results...

Try removing the radio from your tuner list. might work.
no radio in my tuner list, and it doesn't appear on the UI

Re: Remove "settings" from the BTV menu?

Thanks for showing me where that was. I didn't think that the radio tuner would be listed separately in the web admin. Always nice to get rid of clutter, thanks again.
