Mixing Analog and HD tuners question

I just upgraded to BTV 4. I have a Hauppage 250 and want to add a second HD tuner to my rig. I was wondering if there are any issues mixing the formats.

Since OTA HD shows are on a sub-channel, will the BTV schedule show the HD sub channels along with the normal ones?

I would like to choose between the two for recording/viewing. I have not seen any screen prints of the mixed mode.

You shouldn't have any issues mixing the tuners (see my sig). The Guide has both lineups, but they are segregated because of the chanel numbers (channel 7 in my regular lineup is 1071 for HD) So all of the HD channels are "grouped" because of the channel numbers. Since recordings are based on channel, you are already selecting if it will be recorded on HD vs regular based on the channel that you choose.

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

Thanks Nanook!

BTW, how pleased are you with the Vbox tuner? I have been considering it for my rig.

Also, when viewing HD, does it show multiple resolutions 720p vs 1080i?

I'm a noob as far as HD goes. Haven't made the plunge for the big screen yet. Will be watching it on my 20.5 inch Dell monitor.

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

I too have a blended setup: two 250BTVs and two Fusion5s. I have no issues with recording ... that includes about 8 weeks of beta.

You know how you have a HBO and HBO Pacifc? ... now you have channel 4 and channel 1041. When you search for a title to record, they will both show-up, you then choose from which channel to record.

I haven't had any issues with the VBox tuner.

The resolution that you use is driven by many factors including what resolutions your TV supports and what resolutions your Video Card Supports.

I have mine set to 720p (even though my TV and video card support 1080i) because 1080i compresses everything in the native windows environment so much that I can't read the text.

I have had BTV 3.5 with Hauppage 250 recording from satelite for over a year with no problems. I just added the Kworld ATSC-110 HD card connected to OTA antenna and upgraded to BTV 4.0, now I have audio problems.

I can still tune into stations on the Hauppage 250 over the satelite and I get audio, but when I go to an OTA station, I have to manually switch to SPDIF to get any audio. If the signal is HD then I have to manually switch to 5.1 and then it is iffy. Nothing sounds when switched to 2 channel. I am using Creative Labs Audigy ZS for a sound card.

Strange happenings. Anyone else have similar probs?

Never mind - you already listed the sound card. What audio decoder are you using ?

Good Question! Where do I find that in the Settings? What is the preferred decoder?

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

It's in the options menu (while watching a recording or live TV). Do you have the nvidia decoders ?

No. Where can I download them? My video card is the nvidia 6600GT, by chance would it be bundled with those drivers?

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

They used to, but you need to get the Purevideo decoder from nvidia.com. I think that they have a 30 day trial:

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

Thanks nanook105 for the help. One final question, after I get the nvidia decoder, do I use it as both the preferred video and audio decoder or just audio?

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

I would try different combos to see what works best

Re: Mixing Analog and HD tuners

I must have missed a step.

I installed the NVIDIA decoder, and while it appears on the preferred video list, Snapstream basic and Snapstream decoders are the only ones that appear on the audio list. The picture is better but the sound is still in the dumpster.

Never mind. I found the thread where you indicated
http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...854#post166854
for the fix.
