Chicago area hd antenna

Ok, I know there are a whole mess of chicago area guys here. I have a satelite dish and was thinking of getting the terk tv44 to clip on there for the sthetic convenience. I also was thinking about the indoor antenna which is a little cheaper for the unamplified version, a wash for amplified. Everything reads yellow for my area, so I assume I need the least demanding antenna. I'm southern suburbs so I get ota regular fairly well except cbs channel 2. Any input? Also I am looking at the avermedia a180, any comments on that? I was thinking about the fusion packages from snapstream, what are the differences realistically between lite and gold, and how foes the a180 compare.

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

For "yellow: area, I'm using the Terk TV5 from Circuit City, as i'm about 15 miles from each station. I actually had to turn off the built-in amplifier!

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

I'm actually using an old (at least 15 years) outdoor antenna and every station but CBS is 98-100 %. I have a turk indoor, but got tired of playing with it. Now that HD has stabilized for me, I might try to get that turk working again. Especially since it has UHF and VHF.

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

I've actually got a roof mounted antenna, I wonder how that will work. Eitehr way, I ordered the Terk tv44 to snap on my dish, I'll try that with the rg6 cable I already have and compare antennas. I did go with the A180, probably won't have time to install it till thanksgiving. I know I'll be overwhelming my 7500 video card, but then again my tv isn't hdtv ready yet, so no hurry on quality.

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

I tried mine on a whim, fully expecting that it wouldn't work. It's actually a little beat up (some of the poles are broken, some are bent). Not only did it work great, but it was actually already pointed perfectly so I didn't even have to adjust. I am just a little worried about lightning strikes, so I'm probably going to try the turk again. I just ordered a second HD tuner, so I'll probably hook the turk up to it.

If you ever find something the works with CBS, let me know. The HD signal for CBS is every bit as crappy as the OTA analog CBS signal.

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

Well that sucks! I've never figured out what's wrong with cbs and was hoping hd would cure it. Of well, I'll try my existing antenna first (maybe upgrade the cables and throw in an amplifier) before I try the clipon. Do you have an amplifyer on yours? I think it helps if you don't split the signal too much (mine goes to about six tv's or inputs). Also my tv antenna is hooked up to rg59 (came with the house) so rg6 might improve that as well. Do you pick up the Gary HD channels out of curiosity?

Re: Chicago area hd antenna

I don't have an amp on my rooftop antenna, and I'm not splitting it yet (I have all of my other tuners hooked up to cable). I upgraded my whole house (including the rooftop antenna) to RG6 over the summer and I think that it made a difference

I haven't tried any stations but Chicago (I would need a second antenna pointed to Gary), but I am thinking about trying a CBS station out of Rockford
