Moving Shows?

I just added another Hard Drive to my Beyond TV server. I created a folder on the new drive and added it to Beyond TV using Web Admin. I then proceeded to move 2 shows to the new drive using the Move command in Web Admin.....

But the shows did not carry over the details. Instead they are marked as unknown in Beyond TV. Is there a way to move shows to the new drive without losing the details???

What version of BTV are you using ? I just move all of the files associated with the shows with windows file manager, and have never had a problem

Re: Moving Shows?

I am using Version 3.5.3. I just tried it your way and I get the same thing. The moved recordings say Unknown. As you can see I did not shutdown Beyond TV.

This is the log.

I moved the file from e:\BeyondTVE to V:\BeyondTV3\ which is an external firewire drive.

MY folders are
D:\BeyondTV2 - default
E:\BeyondTVE
V:\BeyondTV3

Re: Moving Shows?

Been a while since I've used 3.5.3. I do remember issues with the whole move function in some releases, could be 3.5.3 is one of them.

Re: Moving Shows?

Nannook,

Thanks for responding to my post.

I was able to move the files by ....shutting down Beyond TV... moving the file.... then restarting Beyond TV. Beyond TV at startup detected the new media but... did not isssue the delete command as it did when you move a file while BeyondTV is running.

Re: Moving Shows?

I'm using 3.7.4 and recently tried the move command throught the web admin. Once you click move, the recording will show up as unknown until the move is finished. Using the web admin, wait until it says move completed before checking the recording list. Once finished it will show up with the information. However, I have noticed that it does not keep weather the show is new or not. No matter if what, the show will be rest to new again.

For those interested I recently added a move fonction for shows in my Web Guide. With this feature you can move shows in subfolders (whereas you can't in Web Admin). During the move there is a progress bar showing exactly what is going on. The show will not be listed as unknown during the move because it is hidden until the move is finished. You can also edit the file after it is moved if ever the show properties where not retrieved correctly (it does sometimes happen with WMV).

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: Moving Shows?

StephaneM,

I tried your Web Guide to move a file. I can see it writing the file to my other drive but when it completes I get this error "Error: unable to delete source file" and nothing happens. The source file is a WMV. For your info the file is not read only so it should be able to delete it. I am using BTV 3.5.3.

It's a permission problem (the guide does handle "read only" files). The Web Guide runs under IUSR_MACHINENAME. So for it to properly move the file, this account must have the permission to :

* create new files in the destination folder
* delete the original file

The easiest way to do this, it to grant these rights to "Everyone" on your video folders.

Note : On the contrary the "Delete" button doesn't suffer from this permission problem as the deletion is handled directly by BTV (but I choose to not use the delete function of BTV to move the file).

PS: Also if you want to see disk space remaining when choosing the folder where the file will be moved, there is some permission to change regarding WMI. You can look at the FAQ (last item for how to enable disk space remaining).

Regards,
Stéphane.
