Will this config work?

I searched around but could not find a straight answer.

I would like to setup my BTV like this, will it work?
I will be using DirecTV.

No TV Tuners, just Video capture cards (s-video), 2 cards
My motherboard has SPDIF IN and OUT.
I want to use the onboard SPDIF IN with "S-Video Capture Card 1" and get another SPDIF IN card and tie it to "S-Video Capture Card 2".
All sound will output from the motherboards SPDIF OUT.

Of course BTV will either use IR or Serial to change the DirecTV boxes.

Will this work?

I downloaded the demo copy but could not find any specific settings where I can specify "video from this card, audio from this source" BTW I dont have a video in card yet. Does this setting show up once I install a capture card?

Thanks!
Ichiro

First things first, what capture card are you using?

Re: Will this config work?

AFAIK BTV is a tuner based product. All the cards it supports are currently tuners. What is done when using a setup like yours, is to use the SVideo input that is available on most of these tuner cards.

There are lot of guys using STBs like DirectTV etc. and BTV. But I don't know of anyone using a pure capture card without a tuner.

Re: Will this config work?

Ok, thanks for the info.
I did notice the tuner cards all have S-Video in.

Will I be able to tell BTV to take the audio from a different source (motherboards SPDIF in or another SPDIF in Card) while capturing video from the tuner cards s-video in?
I noticed the tuner cards only have "stereo in"

Does BTV 3 support digital audio? or do I need to wait till BTV 4?

Thanks for your help,
Ichiro

Re: Will this config work?

Yes, a pure capture device will work as long as you have your capture drivers for it.

For example: I used to use a Geforce 3 Ti200 VIVO card to test software capture from composite out on my cable box, and audio line in on my sound card.

Just because you don't have a tuner doesn't mean you can't use BTV, you need a *capture device* and a tuner source (read: cable/sat box).

If you look at it this way: Why do you need the tuner on a hardware card if you're piping your cable/sat box in via svid/composite?

EDIT: As for the sound, I don't know, but I'd wager it won't record digital audio. You'll probably need an analog audio source.

Re: Will this config work?

Great! Thanks for the info.
Your right, I dont need a "tuner" card. Im either going to hook up to DirecTV or some other box. I dont need BTV just for "OTA" stuff.
I hope someone comes out with a DVI or HDMI capture card soon

Does anyone know if BTV 3 will capture digital SPDIF audio?
Or does it only do Stereo? Im curious if everyone that uses BTV just uses stereo audio.
The reason im asking because more channels are broadcasting in 5.1 Dolby Digital.

Thanks!
