Question HighDefiniton and BTV/Hauppauge 150

Hmm not sure, this could be the wrong section to post-my apologies. I am wondering if I hook up a HighDefinition sat receiver to my Hauppauge 150 and connected using BTV, will I be able to get the HighDefinition channels??

Thanks

Re: HighDefiniton and BTV/Hauppauge 150

You can't get hi def for sure. The 150 will only capture standard (NTSC) content. If the sat box will output analog S-Video or composite video (RCA jack) then you may be able to get some channels (but not hi def) into BTV via this card. At best it would be analog 720 x480 out from your box to the card. You may get a nice picture, but it won't be hi def and you won't be able to pass true hi def channels to the card unless the box will downconversion as well as the digital to analog conversion.

Thanks...I just wanted to really find out if the channels would actually show up on my computer monitor.

Seems it will right? Just not in Highdef.

Re: HighDefiniton and BTV/Hauppauge 150

really depends on the settop box.... I have a Scientific Atlanta 3250HD box for cable and the SVideo out of there is a downconverted version of the hidef channels... I use this to record my "hidef" (in aspect ratio only) so that I can watch the shows in letterbox instead of pan and scan. I find the quality to be pretty good, but obviously nothing near HD.

It will be a very long time, I think, before I'll be recording HD since I don't get OTA channels and my cable company has yet to enable the firewire port (since it's not yet mandated in Canada like it is in the states) let alone leave any of the HD signal un-encrypted.

Re: HighDefiniton and BTV/Hauppauge 150

I got curious and tried to remote record a movie in HD using the svideo out to my PVR 250 and it looked exactly like what I would expect the SD version to be, except it was letterboxed.
