Audio stops working

Just setup a brand new PC with Windows XP Pro, Beyond Media, Firefly and Beyond TV 3 (all latest versions) and have one major issue at this point. Whenever I jump to Beyond TV from the Beyond Media main menu, the audio is either really screwed up (choppy and barely discernable) or not there at all. This situation only occurs when I've been watching a DVD (using the basic CyberLink engine) or listening to MP3 audio files in Beyond Media, before opening Beyond TV. The only remedy is to close down both programs and reopen Beyond TV, then everything is fine again. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this? I have the latest Turtle Beach Catalina sound card drivers installed and am using the optical digital out.
