vmr9 is stuttering as hell

i read about that much better image quality of vmr 9 so i had to try it out!

i got vmr9 renderless to work in zoomplayer without tearing or stuttering (took me hours!) but i couldnt get it to work jerkyless in btv. no tearing in btv, butt stutters all over.

what it took to make vmr9 tearing- and jerkyless in zoomplayer:

-change refresh rate from 100hz to 75hz
-activate reclocks vsync correction
-switch reclock from direct3d to directdraw
-user renderless vmr9 in exclusive fullscreen ( i give a shit about any other vmr mode. for me theres only overlay or renderless vmr9 )

in zoomplayer the tearing test shows a white bar, in btv a pink one, the same in exclusive fullscreen as in normal fullscreen. what does that mean?

in zoomplayer "open source mpeg filter" is used as default since installation, in btv i dont have that one., no matter which other i try, they all stutter with vmr9- nvidia, basic, intervideo. with overlay i got perfect stutter free image using nvida in btv.

tearing went away for btv and zoomplayer only when i switched the monitor refresh rate to 75hz instead of 100hz (pal indeed). my radeon9600 seems to do 75hz more accurate than 100hz (reclock saying: 75.00x hz, but 100,x hz).
i got the Dxva and Hwmc switched on and i use exlusifefs but that doesnt help btv. (of course reclock only kicks in with btv if used as "force reclock as audio renderer")

so vmr9 is perfect for zoomplayer, but a no go for btv - or am i missing an option?

i am using btv 3.7.2, pvr-250, athlon 2100+, radeon9600

Re: i tried vmr9 and switched back to overlay because its no good

DXVA seems to be incompatible to reclock
http://reclock.free.fr/bb/viewtopic.php?t=61
so i disabled hardware acceleration in the nvida decoder tab, now it uses YUY2 and i can select v-sync correction in reclock, but it doesnt change a thing. vmr9 stutters...

Try enabling HW deinterlace if you haven't already done so. With Ex. FS mode, HW deinterlace, and Nvidia DVD decoder, news tickers (my acid test) are utterly smooth. Without HW deinterlace, the tickers stutter a bit every few seconds.

Re: i tried vmr9 and switched back to overlay because its no good

thx, but that doesnt help-using nvidia: with hw-accel and hw-interlace: stutter
without hw-interlace + no-hw-accel i can access the tearing test and adjust vsync- 1 to 2 sutters every round of the tearing test bar.
one thing i cant understand, is why the direct-x settings of the grafix driver dont affect playback- theres a v-sync option..

With 3d overlay, are you using DirectX 9b or c? Also, have you performed the reg hacks for the Hauppauge 250?

Re: i tried vmr9 and switched back to overlay because its no good

i am using dc9c with quartz.dll of 9b. with the reg hacks you mean Hwmc an dxva? yes got them. with zoomplayer it works perfectly. i cant imagine where the stutter in btv comes from. i will try to use another mpeg2-decoder in zoomplayer to see if only the opensource-thingie works..

nvidia decoder without hw accel + reclock vsync correction and zoomplayer:
perfect, no stutter, no tearing
same with the cyberlink decoder; in zoomplayer + vmr9 smooth playback, in btv stutter (this decoder doesnt like hw-accel + vmr9)

Angry Re: i tried vmr9 and switched back to overlay because its no good

Hey All, Have been recording with my pc's since it was first available many years ago.. I tried snapstream in the begining but didn't like the picture quality.. About a year and a half ago I switched back. Guess I like hours and hours of research and trial and error. Been having a problem on one of my rigs with jerky video.. Tried all the suggestions replaced the quartz file, run in exclusive full screen.. Fired it up and wa la success. Picture is great can even watch basketball without any digital artifacts. Thought I had it until I pressed ff or rw. computer freezes for a minute or so and then comes back. Pretty much rendering fast forward and rewind uselss. Has anyone else experienced this problem.. Hardware accel. on, deinterlacing, on snapstreamsp decoder. P4 2.4ghs overclocked to 3.01(Rig has been stable for years) 1 gig ddr, nvidia nvtv dual tuner, 2 serial controlled set top satt boxes. recording qual. vbr 4000-20000 problem exists in exfs or regular.. Going to try toswitch to invid decoder but my wife said she was having the same problem earlier in the day when I was using that decoder. HElp please. Thanks

Might try a different audio encoder...I got that behavior with the Nvidia PV...cleared up when I went to any of the SS ones.

Thumbs up Re: i tried vmr9 and switched back to overlay because its no good

I finally got vmr9 to work without playback stutter or tearing. i use the decoder in Roxio (Sonic) Cineplayer.2.31. Its still not perfect though, fwd or rwd could be smoother. another strange thing is that even though hw3d is selected the deinterlace option is not available in btv4.1 but i can see that picture is deinterlaced so no fuss there.

hope this helps others...
btw i'm using a lowly gf5200 card.
