Timed reboot question

Hello,

I have my machine reboot automaticly at 3am every day using the scheduled tasks program. There is only one problem.. Shutdown.exe requires the user account that the program runs under have a password.. So, when 3am comes around and the machine reboots.. It stops at the login screen.. Hence.. BTV will not load until a password is entered and the user logs in.. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Re: Timed reboot question

If you are using WinXP, dowload TweakUI (google it) and enable the feature to automatically log in an account when Windows starts up. One word of warning, it seems that if you ever manually "log off" the user, then the setting gets lost and you'll have to reset it.

Re: Timed reboot question

If you have just one user (besides Admin) without a password it may automatically login (I can't remember if XP did that too). I think you might be able to set some registry settings manually as well.

If you want to make it easy, You want the Microsoft PowerToy: TweakUI. TweakUI will allow you to set a default user so the system will automatically login without intevention as well as tweak some system settings. Microsoft's PowerToys After you install it will be in the Control Panel - It took me a few secs to find it the first time.

There are several neet add-ons there. Take a look around.

Re: Timed reboot question

There is a simpler way to accomplish this without downloading anything. Run the following from the xp run dialog: control userpasswords2

There you can hilight the user that you want XP to automatically logon with and then uncheck the box above that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
