Dvi?

Help! I looking for a cheaper TV alternative than buying an LCD TV. I use my computer for BTV and to play games. Using my convertion CRT TV is tough on the eyes!! I'm not very knowledgable about the latest TV technology, but will buying a TV with a DVI connection make seeing computer text better (like a reg. montior). I've been looking at something like this:

Advent 30" Widescreen 1080i HDTV Ready http://www.adventtv.com/3061adetail.htm#

Can someone please help me out?

Re: Dvi?

You would think that going from composite or S-Video out for SDTV to DVI with HDTV would give you improvement.

How compatable this unit is with your video card? Does your card support output resolution equivalent to this TV? Does the TV specify the DVI is for PC input? If it doesn't, you still may be ok.

When trying to drive an HDTV with a video card, there are sometimes issues with over/underscan when the resolutions and frequencies don't match.

Look over at htpcnews.com. They might have more insight.

Re: Dvi?

I use DVI on a 50" HDTV. At 1080i, I can open apps and see what I am doing, but it is a strech to say the experience is comfortable. At 720p, it is far more useful. I only use it as a computer to modify XML files, apply security patches, etc. The other 99% of the time it is a BM/BTVLink machine, so I stay at 1080i.

Re: Dvi?

You probably want to try to find a TV with RGB in. My Samsung plasma (HPR4252), for example has it.
