WMV Streaming - 1 hardware encoded, 1 non-hardware encoded

Has anyone been able to get WMV streaming to work while having one hardware encoded card & a non-hardware encoded card ?!

Am i just crazy or shouldnt this setup work -

1 Hardware Encoded Card, 1 Non-Hardware encoded card

I currently have 1 Diamond PVR350, and 1 Happauge WinTV non-hardware encoded card with W2K Pro.

I thought if I disable the hardware encoded card (and keep the Happauge enabled), then I could have the option of recording in WMV.

For some reason, BTV doesnt give me the WMV option.

I realize that obviously with a hardware encoded card its not possible to record/stream in WMV. But if this card is disabled AND the non-hardware encoded card enabled, then this option should be available right ??!

I did this setup so I could have the best of both worlds - great quality tv when I'm home with the hardware-encoded card, and then (after switching to the Happauge card) wmv streaming when I'm not home with the Happauge card. I'm not doing this for multiple tuner setup - it wouldnt work in this config anyways...

Is it so wrong to be asking for the best of both worlds ? Has anyone been able to pull this off ?

Try removeing the Diamond source in BTV . Then setup the Hauppauge . It does work . I keep both cards enabled . You could have a firewall blocking or a isp . You need to do a port scan to see if your port is open .

I was reading www.grc.com a old port scanner and read that some isp's even block port 80 without users knowledge . My isp is blocking dns and dhcp . It is a good thing for ISP to block some ports it stops trojans and internet exploits . Blocking some ports is bad for gamers and p2p users though . I think my isp started blocking a p2p port on me . But now it is going to unlimited online time allow meaning 16 hrs a day . I was online more than 24 hrs a time geting some huge files . It is not blocking port 80 .

Make sure you have the redirect on in the btv web ui if you do not use port 80 for anything else . I think keeping port 80 open is a slight risk so I go to machinge by typeing 192.168.0.1: port on the lan . Your port can be anything you want the default is 8129 . When I am online my IP address changes .

Re: WMV Streaming - 1 hardware encoded, 1 non-hardware encoded

Thanks for the advice! I got this working for the most part...

In fact, I found another article that explains how to do this as well - Want some home-made choco-chip cookies? How to Stream Live TV, 2 Tuners hIming

I had a strange experience with recordings though - all the recordings (made on my hardware encoded card) play in fast forward. As soon as I hit play, it starts fast forwarding itself.....any solution ?

Do you have both cards enabled at all times ?

Yes . There is issues with mixing software and hardware encoders if you try to watch live tv the same time . I am not really sure what is happening on your build . Try and see if it works. It is unsupported so do not get official support for trying mixing both . Try the software card only 1st .

Re: WMV Streaming - 1 hardware encoded, 1 non-hardware encoded

alriiigh......as Seinfeld would say......finally got everything working perfectly!!!

trick is to first of all only keep one tv tuner enabled (i know i know u think this would be obvious but with all the stuff BTV screws up on anythings possible), and keep whichever one you currently need to be top on the list and everything works just fine.

Seriously awesome, I cant believe this isnt officially supported ! The least Snapstream should do is get a list of configs from users like us that do work okay and list them......dont u agree ??!

again, my setup - 1 Diamond PVR 350 card, 1 Happauge Wintv, on Win2K
