XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
Last night, I downloaded the 6 updates for XP. Since doing so, Beyond TV cannot connect to download the TV schedule and if I try to run the setup wizard, it will not connect to Snapstream.net. It will say there is not an internet connection. All of my other internet apps seem to work fine. Not real sure what to do. I rather not uninstall the patches just in case they fix some serious flaws.
Any ideas? |

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
(deleted)... maybe spoke too soon.
I see the same problem, but I don't know if its the updates or not. I ran the XP updates Tues 4/12/05. Snapstream.net started its automated update approx 8pm PDT, and ran fine... no error. However, today Wed 4/13/05, when I tried to start them manually from ViewScape Settings, it did fail. Computer restart... update still failed.

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
Manual guide update failed three times for me after I applied the updates in question. I closed BTV, deleted my temporary internet files and then restarted BTV and was able to update manually. Waiting to see if I get any further failures.

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
OK -- I have confirmed that there IS an issue here...
After working on my test box with 2 configs -- sp1 all updates and sp2 all updates -- sp1 box is fine however -- sp2 config -- I get the dreaded Setup Wizard cannot find an internet connection. Frankly -- this is the first time I've personally had that error. So now I'll dig around and see how to resolve it. More to come.

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
OK -- here I what I've found:
The only update that Works -- http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-018.mspx aka -- KB890859 These updates apparently have issues: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-019.mspx aka -- KB893066 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-016.mspx aka -- KB893086 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-020.mspx aka -- KB890923 So -- if these updates have been installed, simply remove the 3 with the issues -- you will see them by the KB# in Add/Remove Programs with Updates checked off... I have tried all types of combinations to see if any of the offending updates will work -- but alas they do not. Let me know how you make out.

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
I too had one hell of a time connecting to SS in the setup wizard...although it eventually did (2 minutes later) connect. I am running a manual update at the moment, and am up to 66%. It is painfully slow.
Mr. Flaherty...may I suggest that it might be prudent to make a temporary sticky of your last post. It might save folks the trouble of not knowing what's going on. Cheers, CF

I also had a guide update failing problem, though I don't recall installing any updates lately, and the updates listed above do not appear in my add remove programs (yes, I checked show updates, other ones are there) Deleting temporary internet files miraculously fixed my problem. Didn't even have to restart BTV. It just worked after doing that. Do I have any idea why the hell it did? Nope! But might save some of you some trouble... |

I didn't have any of those except 890923 LISTED, but when I uninstalled it told me that 893066 might not work properly (who cares! ) I rebooted afterwards and everything is fine now. Somebody needs to sticky this right away...

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
I have mine working fine again...
Went to the Web Administrator: http://localhost:8129 Clicked on Program Guide, and had to re-enter my login and password info (selecting for it to remember the info) After getting the Tv listings to appear in the Web Admin interface, I used ViewScape Settings to update the guide, and all is well again. I did not have to uninstall any XP update, and still using BTV 3.5.3

Re: XP Updates breaks TV Schedule Download
I just installed the updates, rebooted, started BTV, and had it download a guide update from SS.net without issue. So at least it isn't a problem for *every* installation.
