You need to use showsqueeze to convert them to wmv files before you can stream them to the web interface.

(or capture in wmv originally if you have a software capture card)

Someone will probably come along and correct me, but I think you have to record in .wmv format to be able to play over your network. Try showsqueezing it and then it ought to let you, that's what I've done so far.

Re: trying to get the streaming to work please help.

Two other ways to fix this:

1. Find the folder containing the show video files on the server and share the folder. Then you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to the files and play them.

2. Get Beyond TV Link which can stream MPEG files. I think there's a free trial of this software somewhere on Snapstream.com.

And:

If you do the BTV Link route, your network needs to be either 10/100BT wired, or 54Mb (802.11a or 802.11g). 11Mb 802.11b, just doesn't do it, or at least doesn't do it well.

Just to add to that- even 54Mbit may be poor if the server is WiFi as well as the client, because the WiFi bandwidth is shared. By reason of the layout of my house, my BTV main PC connects via 802.11g to the Router/Office PC, and I've tried BTV link on other 802.11g PC's. These play showsqueezed files fine, but stutter like mad on MPEG2 streams (and the WiFi throughput on each PC drops to 24Mbit). BTV Link on the "Wired" PC works fine.

I've found that this works well; I can stream media at b or g wireless...
