Windows XP64 Anybody?

I noticed that Microsoft quietly released XP64 x64 to MSDN subscribers the other day.

1. Are there any users that have done testing with BTV on this OS during Beta/RC?
2. Will there be any significant performance enhancements by upgrading my Athlon 64 3200 to this OS?

TIA

There is a big problem for me... no 64-bit Hauppauge drivers. Don't think they are working to hard on them either.

But my understanding (although limited) is that the 32-bit compatibility mode will bridge the gap.

Re: Windows XP64 Anybody?

32 bit compatibility only works for software, if your running a 64 bit os you NEED 64 bit drivers for all hardware you intend to use. Until the 64 bit os's have some sort of backing dont expect hardware manufacturers to come out with drivers.

running a 64bit os isnt going to give you much of an improvement in performance unless you are specifically running a 64 bit program on there that is designed to need / use the advancements in processing / memory, regular 32 bit programs are still going to chug along at roughly the same speed, and may actually end up slower depending on the 32bit back support, right now 64 bit is a "geek niche" and a scientific stand point as they are the only ones needing / wanting a 64 bit os, until it jumps mainstream wich probably wont be until long-horn comes out your not going to see too many 64 bit drivers for anything but core components

Thanks for the clarification. Just not enough hours in the day to keep up with all of the changes.

Geek niche...doesn't that describe us?

There is alot of development in the 64-bit drivers realm and ATI and nVidia have stable graphics and chipset drivers ready.

not enitrely true... there is performance increase running 32-bit apps on a 64-bit OS. The app doesn't take advantage but the OS does. The numbers we have seen in our lab show this very evidently.
