XP remote access

I can successfully use Win XP's remote access feature for most things, but whenever I try to start BTV on the remote, I get a Direct 3D Error message - "D3D ERROR" and the application quits.
I tried PCAnywhere as well, but got the same error message.

GOTOMYPC does work, but has a monthly charge. Does anyone know of a way I can get Windows' built-in remote access to work?

Re: XP remote access

Direct3d applications (like BTV) do not work with xp’s remote desktop.

One alternative you can look into is VNC (I have used tightVNC in the past, but there are several variations of VNC, I’m not sure which is considered to be the best).

Re: XP remote access

I use real vnc, free and easy to set-up. Just make sure that you configure your xp firewall, or better yet, disable it.

Re: XP remote access

I use LogMeIn, and it is great for administrative use and even transfers. LogMeIn is completely free, and even works wirelessly on a PDA. I just got an email today that GoToMyPc just went free (part of it) probably to compete. I dont know if this is what you are looking for.

Re: XP remote access

I've been using RealVNC (www.realvnc.com) for a few months now to remotely manage over a LAN and it works pretty well. By default it's quite slow though with BeyondTV... On the VNC server I would suggest changing the configuration to "Poll Full Screen". You'll get a lot quicker updates that way.

Then just add exceptions to your Windows Firewall for ports 5900 (TCP) and 5901 (TCP).

Exclamation Re: XP remote access

This remote access product is fast and stable for most of my remote management activities. It is built up with useful features and more over it is cost effective. Give a try with its trial version.
