Trial --> Registered CD version

Hi

I did a search and did not come up with a satisfactory answer... hence I am asking the question again.

I just purchased BTW from Amazon.ca (I had a coupon so it worked out a little cheaper ) and now my trial will be done in 7 days..

Now I'm pretty sure the CD I get will be out of date... so what is the best way to upgrade my current version (3.5.1) to make it registered.

Thanks
TLSRULZ

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

If you have a license key and want to know how to enter the key, the easiest way for you may be to re-install the software.

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

I thought I read about a place to enter the license # in web admin .... no?
Maybe in the about box?

Surely, you don't have to re-install. But then again, what do I know.

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

So according to flavius I should uninstall the trial and then re-install it but enter in the serial number of the CD I get.

I'm sure more people have had the same question and have upgraded... so I'm surprised that there is only 2 responses ... this is why I could not find a satisfactory answer when I did a search...

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

copy and paste your product code here: http://localhost:8129/Registerkey.aspx

If you have any -- ANY issues with getting your ss.net account migrated -- sign up with a different email account -- then you can switch it later...

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

Soso, official support is instigating people to hack the registry. Interesting.

Yeah. Even I'm confused about this. You (theoretically) should NOT have to uninstall/re-install... if so, I say JUNK!

I still think that you can plop the serial # in a box in one of the interfaces... without touching the registry!!!

Asking someone to manipulate the registry is both irresponsible and unreasonable. I just can't believe that SS would set it up this way.

Prove me right SS

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

Apparently I was reminded of http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/show...430#post131430 when I saw bnflaherty's post and the word "registry". Or maybe it was just this pseudo that reminded me of my support request which has been pretty inactive recently?

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

Hope you have better luck than I did--at least to date. I am still stuck in "trial hell." Can't use BTV Link, can't get to listings from the web admin, and of course can't even log into snapstream.net. Last I heard, two days ago, was that they were going to kill my trial.snapstream.net account, so that I could then recreate it at snapstream.net. To date, nothing has happened that has come close to solving the problem (wasted plenty of my time though). My trial account it still active.

So be careful when setting it up again--you might still be forced to use the trial server. I have reinstalled the thing from scratch, to no avail. Whether I get this straightened out or not, I don't think I'll easily forget my "welcome" for becoming a paying customer. YMMV.

Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

Thanks to bnflaherty for the reply... so now I will wait for the pkg from AMAZON, enter the key and then run setup, delete my current profile and create a new one (hopefully with ss.net not the trial one)... everyone wish me luck..

Hopefully I'll be able to get my SS account switched without an issue.

Thanks

Cool Re: Trial --> Registered CD version

I went from the trial to the CD version (I did not install the CD version).

I typed the CD key that was supplied with the CD into the register product screen. This screen can be accessed from the viewscape (windowed mode) via the top menu.

I had problems getting it to register because you are supposed to enter it as they supply it. (Mine was in all CAPS). Did not work. I called the help number supplied and they told me to enter it in all lower case. It then worked.

You can also use the register product screen in the admin web app (as supplied by the link above).

In my case, registering went just fine (BTV went from trial to purchased version). It's just that my account is still at trial.snapstream.net instead of snapstream.net Can you log into www.snapstream.net OK?

Amazingly, the fix for me was simply choosing "Forgot Your Password?" at the snapstream.net login screen. It accepted my trial username and emailed me a confirmation. I followed the link in the confirmation email, and was able to reset my password. At that point my account was apparently migrated over to the trial server. To be safe, I ran the BTV setup wizard again--and did not delete any sources. BTV worked fine, as did BTV Link, and the guide within the web admin. Finally!

FWIW, my trial password was only 6 characters in length. When I changed the password it would only accept PWs with at least 7 characters. I wonder if the password size had something to do with my issue? (Maybe the trial server allows 6-character passwords, whereas the paid server does not.)
