Smile Audio Setup

Hello,
I have a very basic audio setup question.
I have the composite left/right audio output from my cable box going into the composite input on the haupauge pvr 150.
OK.. simple enough. Now exactly how do I get the sound going from the PC sound card back to the receiver? Do I look for an audio cable that has a 1/8" "line out" on one end to plug into the card and 2 composite L/R on another end for the receiver? And.. is the 5.1 surround preserved?

Setup:
BTV with a PVR 150 in a living room HTPC
video is coming from a digital Cox cable box.
I have a 5.1 Klipsch surround system hooked up to an AIWA receiver/amplifier.

TIA

Jeff

Re: Audio Setup

Well as far as 5.1 surround sound is concerned you’re limiting yourself to stereo by using the composite output from your cable box.

As for getting the sound from the pc, the cable that you mentioned is what I use (you can pick one up at Radio Shack). But again this cable will also only carry a stereo signal.

Re: Audio Setup

I'm not sure about that.. I can hook up a stand alone DVD player with component L/R out to the audio receiver and I get full 5.1 sound out - back speakers, side speakers, front, ..all the cool effects..etc

No, you can't get 5.1 from RCA jacks. You might have Dolby Prologic running, which sounds way better than stereo, but not 5.1.

Re: Audio Setup

Yeah ProLogic is just a way to convert stereo sound into something that sounds like surround sound. Although it is pretty good, trust me it is no 5.1. For true 5.1 surround sound you need some type of digital connection (like optical or spdif)
