TVLink can't connect: "Failed to get build number from server"

Whenever I try to connect TVLink to my BTV server (which TVLink finds and shows in the menu), I get an error:
"Failed to get build number from server. Please update server to a more recent version."

Starting with the obvious, I confirmed that my server is running version ver 3.5.1 (Build 1894). This is the latest version I thought.

Any idea what is wrong?

You need to be using the same version number for Link as your BTV server (3.5.1 Build 1894). Perhaps your trying to connect using an older version of link?

I confirmed that both versions (Link and Server) are 3.5.1 build 1894.


Any other ideas?

I get that error sometimes when the server is going through heavy IO use or CPU load, usually while recording a show or indexing a newly re-encoded wmv file. it seems like is just timing out or recieving the wrong information because something got messed up in the transfer across the network, a bug in the netcode of the server or client.

sorry that doesn't help you much, but maybe it will help the devs understand the problem better.
