Sais: "Sorry, but no BTV servers could be found on the local network"
RE: BTV Link on client computer (laptop) on my home LAN
When I try to open the BTV link shortcut it opens the blue window and then sais: " Sorry, but no BTV servers could be found on the local network- 'Refresh' or 'Exit'? " I have searched this topic to death and nobody else who has posted on this topic has seemed to find the reason why discovery was not possible for them. Nor can I. My client's BTV short cut is set to /networkclient:x.x.x.x (x.x.x.x being 1.1.1.13 on my home LAN) I can ping my server in a cmd promt, and also I see it in Windows Explorer when I type in \\1.1.1.13\C$ I can type in 1.1.1.13 :8129 and then it will log on the the server's webadmin just fine from the remote host. I have updated the .net software to 1.1 service pack 1 on the client. I have included permissions to Zone Alarm on the remote host, and on the Server's Sygate firewall software. I have full communication between both compters back and forth in any other way, but the the BTV link WILL NOT discover the server under any circumstance. And the last thing I just tried was to turn off BOTH the Sygate firewall on the server AND the Zone Alarm firewall on the remote host, and STILL nothing. I am running both versions 3.5.1 on server and remote host, server is a licensed purchased copy I've had for a long time, and the BTV Link is a trial version, that will stay as such until I get this to work. Does anybody have any ideas for me to possibly try before I give up on BTV link altogether. -By the way, the client is running Win2000 Pro SP3 and the server is running XP Pro SP1.

Re: Sais: "Sorry, but no BTV servers could be found on the local network"
Also, I don't have a service for Cisco VPN in my list so that can't be running.
And I tried enabling UPnP in WebAdmin (in 'Misc Settings') on the server = nothing. Surely I'm missing something. I hoping this has happened to somebody else other than me, but have also found the reason

Re: Sais: "Sorry, but no BTV servers could be found on the local network"
Nevermind, I couldn't figure it out, so I abandoned project on BTV Link. Since I never watch live tv anyways, I just installed regular BTV 3.5 onto my laptop (w/o tuner card), and mapped a drive to my BTV server (that has the tuner card) via LAN so BTV on the laptop can 'see' all the recorded shows that my server records (onto the same drive). Seems to be working just fine on a 100mbps wired LAN even with all shows recorded at highest quality. I would've liked to see BTV Link work just to know if I'd be missing something, but I just don't have the time to sit and tweak around for hours anymore so I had to come to some type of conclusion so I could get on with things.
Anyways, thanks for the suggestion Flavious

Re: Sais: "Sorry, but no BTV servers could be found on the local network"
Well, I just used my old key to install my 3.5 onto my laptop as was on my BTV server desktop, and that worked. Just no live TV is all (laptop doesn't have tuner card either), so it only is good for file playback over my home LAN (but like I said, I never watch liveTV anyways). But for some reason, many settings in WebAdmin wouldn't work on the localhost:8129 address in my browser for some odd reason, when I tried to change them (like adding BTV folders leading to the mapped drive and such, and I couldn't turn off many of the switches for streaming server and stuff), so I just edited those settings in the settings.xml file manual in notepad so I could get it to see all my folders on the mapped drive to my BTV server. Also had to manually adjust some of the other settings too this way. But some of settings I COULD change in the browser through webadmin (very odd I thought). I think it might be due to the fact that I have no licensed tuners registered to the BTV install, so it might restrict my access to features in webadmin? (just a silly guess)

I'm glad you found a workaround for this broken program. Unfortunately for me, I started using BeyondTV with version 4, so I don't have an old key lying around.
I had been using the demo of Link with BTV 4.0 (or maby it was 4.1) with moderate luck. And I do mean "luck," because as far as I can tell from all the forum postings, that's what it takes to make it work. ![]() Anyway, I hadn't used Link in a while, and I had upgraded to BTV 4.2. So, when I suddenly decided I wanted to watch some recorded shows on the TV connected to the PC with Link, I knew I would need to register. After entering the key into Link, it said it couldn't find any servers. First, I tried what usually fixed that problem on the previous version, connecting to a network share in Windows Explorer. No luck. Then I looked in the SnapStream knowledge base and discovered I needed to update Link to 4.2 also. Nothing. I tried all the other suggestions in the knowledge base, including the appropriate reboots. Still nothing. So I come here and discover people have been having this same problem since at least version 3.5. I tried the various forum suggestions for the /networkclient option etc.It did almost work once. I clicked refresh, the server showed up, I messed up entering the security code (I was also experimenting with enabling and disabling that), clicked cancel to clear the typo, and the server didn't show back up. Edit: I fixed it. My particular issue seems to have been related to upgrading from 4.1 to 4.2. Apparently the upgrade functionality of the 4.2 installer is broken. I thought I might try uninstalling and reinstalling Link, and after uninstalling, I decided to go hunting through the registry. I found a lot of entries referencing version 4.1 and a few to 4.2 (so the Uninstall almost removed 4.2 properly). So, after removing every trace of BTV Link from the registry, I reinstalled 4.2 and it worked right away. It still seems a bit buggy, as the second time I launched it, the server didn't show up again. However, adding the server's name to the /networkclinet option took care of that.
