Feature Request for 3.6: Show me what I am not recording

Ok at the beginnig of the TV season last year I added Regenesis. What I didn't realize is that it knocked out Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I don't remember it saying that there was a conflict.... but the end result is that they were on at the same time and so I have not taped a single new episode of Home Edition. I guess I really didn't miss it since we didn't notice until today.

Anyway, I would really like to be able to go to a screen and see, grouped by series, all the episodes that are not being taped because a higher priority recording is taking their time slot.

I really don't care to see all the other air dates that are not being taped because one of the earlier air dates is being taped, I don't care about those.

Please???

Greg

PS: I think this Regenesis / Home Edition thing is actually a bug because it could have easily scheduled Regenesis to tape on Wed am without a conflict and it would have been able to tape Home Edition.

Re: Feature Request for 3.6: Show me what I am not recording

I'd like a few simple interface improvements:

1. It should be easy to change the default or add a video folder, i.e., you shouldn't have to use the (ridiculously hard to find until you lean the magic words) web interface.

2. Clicking (LEFT clicking) the BTV tray icon should bring it up. Let the right click cover the, oh, mabe 3% of the times that I click and actually want to choose something other than OPEN.

3. When in the 'viewscape' after clicking, say, a show in the guide, or 'Exit ...viewscape' and seeing the menu of choices, I'd really like it if clicking anywhere outside the menu would close the menu. Most (nearly all, and ALL that obey the long-standing conventions for menu behavior that Bill stole from Apple) behave this way.

And on that Exit the Viewscape item, couldn't we just see "exiting in 5...4...3....seconds'? That would give time to recover from an accidental click, but avoid another couple of remote presss.

Sorry for the wise-guy tone, but these seem so very obvious to me, but I suppose some may prefer the current approach. Lest anyone think this is meant as significant criticism, let me say that I only make these suggestions because I am wildly impressed by BTV, and by the exellent quallity of support available on these forums., and I'd like to help make BTV a little easier for those in the broader user community. I originally tried BTV based on a recommendation in Maximum PC, and the interface just blew me away. Keep up the great work!

If you are using XP Pro or Win2K, you can try out my Web guide that does offers a "rejected recordings" view as well as an e-mail notification.

Currently you will see or receive by e-mail the recordings that were rejected because :

* there is a conflict
* you blocked the recording
* the show was recorded recently
* the channel for recording is unavailable
* and any other unknown reasons except : already set to record at another time.

You'll have to use a keep alive script to make sure that the ASP.Net application does not shut down (there is such a script in the FAQ for the web guide) and then could always monitor your recording jobs.

Regards,
Stéphane.

I have checked out your solution. It is great. It would be nice if the rejected recordings was a little easier to get to, but I like it.

Can this solution be used by North American SS.net/non-XMLTV users? I am only interested in the email conflict notifications.

Yes you can, it works either with XMLTV or SnapStream.Net. Though you cannot have only the e-mail notification : the e-mail notification is part of the whole guide, so for e-mail notification to work you must at least use the guide once to load the application and set up e-mail options, then use the refresh script (that you can find in the FAQ) to keep the application alive if you do not wish to use it at all (but there are some interesting thing you can try also : like setting up keywords recordings with also e-mail notifications).

Regards,
Stéphane.

I always welcome suggestions. I wanted the conflict page to open over the upcoming recordings page for you to be able to cancel one of the recording in conflict. Also when you receive the notification e-mail with the rejected recordings list, you have a direct link to the upcoming recordings page.

Note: for e-mail settings take a look at the "setup advanced recordings" page, there is some how to directions for configuring e-mail options and IIS Settings.

Regards,
Stéphane.
