Question ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

Would adding a ATI AIW 9600 to a HTPC that already has a Hauppauge PVR-350 and a PVR-150 become a driver and confirguration nightmare?

I am about to finish my HTPC system and haven't selected my Video/TV card yet for BTV 3.5, I realize the AIW is not the best tuner for BTV, but I thought it would be nice to have it as backup tuner for those times when I need to do 3 things at once.

But am I opening a can of worms that I don't want to think about or is this a good solution for someone that wants to have a "back-up" tuner as well as a good video/tv out card?

Thanks!

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

If the ATI AIW 9600 is a software tuner, it is not officially supported in a multiple tuner environment.

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

Your AIW would not make an efficient tuner but is not a bad card to use for your video output...

I'm using the AIW 9600XT without much of a fuss. Keep in mind, it's recommended you turn off some of the card's features such as Anti-Aliasing, Anistropic filtering, etc...which I still need to do because I've been told this is why I'm getting a few motion blurs/artifacts during live TV.

I heard the Matrox G550 worked REALLY well and I'm tempted to throw my G550 card into my machine just to find out for myself.

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

I've got an AIW 9600 running with two pvr-250s. No problems at all, but I do prefer the recordings from the hauppauges. I'd install the AIW without too much worry...

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

I too have 2-250's with an AIW and it works perfect, I have the 250's record first then the AIW if I need 3 recordings.

Thanks
Mike

Duece- Do you have to use the "Basic" mpeg2 codec to make recordings run well on your 9600 AIW, or is the newer codec working alright for you?

Nanook is correct. Software tuners are not supported in a multituner configuration. If you have problems, we can't officially support it.

Yes that is correct but lately people can't even get support for supported configurations, took me 10 days to even get a person to respond to a problem with Tech support and I had fixed it myself by then(Not TUNER Related).

Bottom line is try the setup you want, if it works that is great if not SS will not give you support if it is not supported. But hey, seems like people help each other out more than SS helps people out lately.

hello,

i was thinking someone here might be able to help me out. i want to use 4 tuners (probably Happauge??) for inputs from 4 satellite receivers via s-video. i want to be able to watch all 4 on one screen simutaneously. preferably without any text or windows boxes.

can you guys point me in the right direction please? i would build this from scratch and output via a 9600 to an hdtv 16:9. it theoretically should look nice because the s-video resolution for each tuner would be shown at native res on the hdtv (all 4 adding up to a nice hi-def screen.

thanks a lot for reading.

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

Can someone point me to the post that explains the correct installation procedure for setting up an AIW card with an existing pvr250 card? I have read that its best to setup the AIW card first then setup the pvr250. The AIW is just for streaming to another pc, and as a backup tuner.

Thanks for any help!

Re: ATI AIW with Multiple Hauppauge tuners

I have two PVR-150s for video capture and an ATI AIW 9600 (started out with this card first & then bought the 150s). I now just use the ATI for output, but would like to use it for streaming when I decide to purchase another tuner license. And yes, I know that it's not supported by SnapStream.

I'm having a problem with Live TV and the shows I record. About 1/4 of a way from the top I get a line across the screen during action scenes. Can you other ATI AIW owners list your current Windows/Beyond TV settings and ATI driver version?
