Hey why can't I get rid of the advertising? :-)

Hi folks,

Well, now that 3.5.1 is out, it's time to start complaining about what needs to be in 3.5.2 eh? :-) Always being glad to oblige, here's a minor annoyance that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere (sorry if it has been):

Please tone down the brand advertising in BTV!

Um, folks, I already paid money for your software. I really dislike being force-reminded of your various names, which are often splattered on the screen whenever video is not playing. Examples:

- That awful stuttering movie of an expanding "Beyond TV" text upon startup, ending up partially inside the HUD if you go straight to video. <shudder>

- It's now "SnapStream.Net Program Guide" instead of the previous, simpler and more logical "Program Guide"

- Here's a doosey: "Exit the Beyond TV Viewscape" (snuck in two brands there, eh boys?) instead of just "Exit" or "Exit Fullscreen Mode" if you absolutely *had* to remind people they weren't quitting the entire program. Some of your sub-brands work (like showsqueeze and smartskip) by making things easier to understand, but some don't like Viewscape.

- Straw that broke the camel's back from Beyond Media: a screen saver that had big, bold and bright "Beyond Media" text bouncing around the screen. So now instead of my TV quietly receding into the background, I am forced to watch an ad. Oy!

I know you want people to remember your name(s), but at one point it actually detracts from the value of your product. Trust me when I say, I know which program I bought. Can we compromise on at least having the ability to customize those issues away?

Cheers,
-Joe

Well depending on how much work you want to put into it (and I guess your computer abilities) you can create your own themes for BM and BTV where you could remove a number of those logos (perhaps all of them?).

In fact I just posted in another thread the other day on how to rename the ā€œSnapStream.Net Program Guideā€? label.

But I understand your concern (although its never bothered me before, and at times I like to have the brand everywhere like when I’m showing it off to friends).

Re: Hey why can't I get rid of the advertising? :-)

thanks jkoon.

Your tip on how to modify the menu items manually in:
C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Beyond TV 3\Language\English.xml

...totally worked. It's exactly the compromise I was hoping for.

Editing names in the GUI

Cheers,
-Joe
