Converting VOB files to a readable format for BTV

I have some DVD movies in VOB format. If I simply rename them to *.MPG they play under Windows Media Player without any problems. I copied them to a network share that BTV 3.4 is setup to display in its list of recordings. I see them but if I attempt to play them thru BTV I get an error message that states they are corrupt or missing. I know they are not missing, and my guess is since I simply renamed the files instead of converting them BTV is seeing them as the VOB format still and BTV does not support VOB files.

Does any one how to convert a VOB to a MPG?

Re: Converting VOB files to a readable format for BTV

You could convert them to DivX with Dr. DivX or Auto-Gordian-Knot. There are also stream converters you can use. I think VideoReDo will take a VOB and save it as an MPG file. The problem is the audio. I am not sure if BTV has the ability to play back the AC-3 audio portion of the VOB.

If you install AC3Filter you will be able to play xvid/divx files with AC3 audio.
