Best wireless for streaming video

What are some of your recommendations for wireless setups and streaming good quality video? Brand? Standard (802.11b, G, SuperG, Xtreme-G, etc.)? Recording quality?

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I've had the best results with Netgear. Their equipment has given me the best throughput. I've been able to stream mpegs on 'best' quality although I get some stuttering due to other network traffic.

I'd go with 802.11g. I'm not sure how good the super-g technology is right now, and can only speak from experience with wireless-g.

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

Netgear's equipment tends to have far higher power output than comparable linksys or Dlink stuff. More power = better ranger = better speed.

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I don't have any problems with a Linksys Wireless G Setup. I have used Linksys for years now--and never had a problem. My guess is that any "reputable" Wirless router/card combo will work fine.

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I gave up after trying them all and not getting decent results with any. The distance from the access point to the client is only 60 feet so I must have some serious interference along the way. I never could get a decent, reliable connection so I gave up.

I did find out that setup and support varies wildly between manufacturers. Netgear and Linksys were the best in that area.

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I tried a linksys wireless G package and a Netgear wireless G package and the Netgear is almost twice as powerful regarding signal strength. I used to be a Linksys addict but seeing them both in action completly changed my mind. I would recommend the setup I use now.

Netgear WGE101 Wireless Bridge
Netgear WGR614v4 Wireless G Router
Netgear WG511 Cardbus adapter (for laptop)

My HTPC is 35 feet from the router and I can stream in better quality with no hiccups at all

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I've been using a Netgear 802.11G WAP in conjunction with a netgear 802.11G wireless pci card for the past few months. It's a works of difference from my old SMC access point.

I used to have to power-cycle the SMC nearly daily, I haven't needed to do that with my Netgear equipment. *knock-on-wood*

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I've got a netgear super G setup (router, pcmcia card, and pci card) and they work great. At the time I bought all of it, it would have only cost 30$ less to go with the standard G, so I figured I'd take a leap. Netgear makes good stuff in my opinion. The cards are tons better than the old belkin cards i used to have

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I had a Linksys setup and it was terrible. Switched to netgear 11G and have no problems streaming full DVD Vob files and anything else I have thrown at it other than full HD video streams.

Re: Best wireless for streaming video

I've been using a Belkin Wireless-G router (F5D7230-4) to stream to my Xbox's with the wireless adapter. I record in MPEG-2 fair quality (1953 kbps). Everything is working great for me.
