Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
I was wondering if anyone has been able to control snapstream in a remote desktop connection? Is it even possible? I have my computer (with the TV tuner card) in a different room than my TV, and I want to be able to control it with my laptop. I know I can buy the FireFly remote, but it's 50 bucks! I tried it, and it said that DirectX SDK had a problem. What's that? Any ideas?

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
I use VNC all the time, there are several different flavors, this is the one I use: http://www.realvnc.com/download.html

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
Very similar to remote desktop (although it can run on multiple platforms). Basically it will allow you to control the remote computer. Just don't count on actually watching video using it.
You run the server on the BTV machine and then the client on the pc you want to connect to it through.

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
Actually I believe RealVNC (the one I listed) is freeware, so it's even better.

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
I tried entering in the IP on both comps, and I got an error each time. Nothing worked. I played around with the settings and looked through the docs. I can't use this program. Why is it better than the one in XP?

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
Too each his own I use the MS one all the time and I find this one much quicker and more responsive, plus it is platform independent. For the server machine you just need to install the server (I would select the as a service option). There should be a small icon in the tray click on it and I would recommend setting a password. If you just mouse over the icon it should report the ipaddress of the machine it is listening on. If you have a firewall you may need to open the port it runs on (5900 by default).
From the client machine you would then specify the ip address (using the client application) and type in the password and that is it. It almost sounds like you are trying to run the client on both machines?

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
I have 3 computers: 1 desktop with tuner card, running Windows XP Professional, and 2 laptops, both running Windows XP Home. I constantly use the remote desktop to log into the computer from my laptop, and I have complete control over it. The only problem I've run into is that when I remotely log in, it kicks the user on the desktop - i.e., I don't get to see what I am doing on the TV, it only shows the Windows "Welcome" screen, the user name, and lets me know the user is logged in. The only way to bring the desktop back to the TV is to log back in, which is what my wireless mouse and keyboard are for.

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
A related question, but anyone who uses XP Remote Desktop able to view BTV in either windowed or Fullscreen mode? I don't want to watch tv or recordings, but I just want to access the program guide screen, etc (I know I can do most of these things via web admin). It says there is something to do with directX. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
no you won't be able to view them becuase of overlay mode and the mandwidth with remote access like remote desktop and vnc your lucky to get 5 frames a sec and no sound. jsut stream your videos from BTV webadmin

Re: Remote Desktop & SnapStream?
Don't use RDP to work with Beyond TV, VNC is more appropriate and causes less issues.
