XMLTV Nightmare

I have been trying to get XMLTV to work in any way for the past 4 hours.

Am i doing something wrong or is all this a pile of s**t ?

Following Percy Bells' guide i got to where he says enter at prompt;

C:\XMLTV> xmltv tv_grab_uk --configure
for a start 'tv_grab_uk' does NOT exist

in the new version, it's;
C:\XMLTV> xmltv tv_grab_uk_rt --configure

this just brings up a zillion errors and produces nothing, so i try the other command;

C:\XMLTV> xmltv tv_grab_uk --days 3 >uk.xml

or should i say in the new version
C:\XMLTV> xmltv tv_grab_uk --days 3 >uk.xml

this finds 17 channels, and does produce an uk.xml file which i can also view.

So, next to the Importer (nightmare);

enter the configurator and i enter the uk.xml that i just created and then it seems to want a PVS database file which DOES NOT exist (trust me, it doesn't)

So, being technically minded i entered the Data Sources (ODBC) in control panel and saw some files relating to 'beyond' in system DSN, a refference to SS_BEYONDTV_DATABASE (which the actual file doesn't exist). So i created the access database file.

so, now armed with the database file (the were two in total if i include BEYONDTV_STAGING) i went to configurator and ebtered in all the details it wanted

when i select 'Edit Channel Lineup' i get a runtime error, WHY ????

This shouldn't be so difficult, some of us just wanna use the program and not fanny around like a no-lifer and spend the rest of our lives tring to get it to work. (sorry but im pi**ed off)

Any help appeciated guys......

Re: XMLTV Nightmare

Hello paulgates,

Percy's guide is a little outdated, you should try my importer that is a litte simpler to use (once you have your XMLTV file), look at my signature to download the importer and read how it should be used.

What version of BTV do you use (if you have no Access database, you may run the latest beta, and the importer you are using doesn't work with the latest beta)?

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: XMLTV Nightmare

I've been struggling to get importer to work. Error message I get in the BTV logs is along the following lines:
JetDBEngine 4.0.8618.0
CSSGuideUpdater:LoadTable - load XSLT failed hr=0x1

Can you point me in the right direction? As I say, I'm struggling.
Cheers

Thanks Stéphane i will give your app a go. I'm running the latest BETA edition as it works better with my Firefly remote (the full non-beta release jumped up/down two notches!).

Re: XMLTV Nightmare

Stephane! You da man. Thanks. After a couple of initial failures, i read your guide (didn't configure BTV to snapstream.net!) and got it working great. your program makes things a LOT simpler as it should be these days!

Now if i could only get the channel to change using my connected DB9 cable to COM1 ?

Thanks again
-Paul.

Could you send me your XMLTV file zipped to lmgestion@hotmail.com to see if I can load them succesfully. And tell me what version of BTV and BTV XMLTV Importer you are running.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Update from Internet ? I wasn't aware of that feature in my Importer ;-)

The importer doesn't download anything from Internet. The downloading of the XMLTV file must be done by the XMLTV utility. I've read somewhere (not here if I remember well) that there is some troubles with the UK XMLTV grabber (RT version, a change in the web sites where the grabber takes it's data).

So you should have a look to your XMLTV file to see if it is up to date, then if it is try to launch an update in the Importer and see if its complete to the end and then check in BTV Log if the update was successfull.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Re: XMLTV Nightmare

you could use this app here
http://www.de-bugger.com/Misc/DGBleb.htm
which grabs listings from belb.org tv
http://www.bleb.org/tv/
ive got it working and the epg popukated but im still not able to match the channles to my actual video feed which is coming in on channel 90, telewest cable box rf out to rf in on capture card.
can any one from uk tell me how their system is set up with cable, or are most users just using standard tv channels ie bbc1 channel4 etc and none of the sky ones
