Channel Logos?

I was reading on another forum, a gentleman talking about his software setup (using a package other than Beyond TV). He was able to import channel logos - Here's what he said.

"I added some channel logos to [other software], taken from http://www.satlogo.com/ . All I did was copy them to my ChannelLogos subfolder, and after a restart of [other software], presto.

Can Beyond TV do this? I'm in the process of buying hardware, and I'm curious if it allow this type of customization.
Thank you.

Re: Channel Logos?

I'll take the silence as a very definite and resounding "NO. Beyond TV is unable". Ok, thanks.

Re: Channel Logos?

Still not?

Was hoping for it in 3.5.

*sigh*

Too bad, too, I liked that feature about SageTV when doing the trial. In fact, I liked EVERYTHING about SageTV. Too bad it's $80, and I already paid for BTV.

Re: Channel Logos?

Let me put it this way: Is the lower price the only reason you purchased BTV?

Re: Channel Logos?

I for one don't want channel logos. I remember things by number. If I want to change to a channel I enter the number on my remote. You can't enter a logo.

If they ever do decide to put logos into the guilde. I hope they let us turn it off.

Re: Channel Logos?

Actually, price wasn't even a factor.

At the time I bought it, I was using an ATI TV Wonder card. SageTV didn't support it. Course, I got tired of it eating up the CPU usage, so upgraded to a Hauppauge PVR-250 card so now I can use SageTV, too. And comparing the two of them...

I mean, hell, I can't even RUN any of the new BTV 3.5 betas, they lock up my PC on attempting to start the 3d interface! And this is on a fresh reformat and reinstall of WinXP (with SP2, then DX9.0c and the latest nVidia drivers for my 6800 and the latest Hauppauge drivers). And, of course, 3.4 kept corrupting the channel database so would periodically just show 'Low EPG data' and not update the channels until I reinstalled the whole thing, etc.

My wife wants channel logos. She does NOT remember things by number, or even station ID (she likes to flip through the channel guide, and glancing at a screen full of logos for the channel you are looking for is much faster than reading each station ID)

are you thinking snapstream would get rid of numbers and replace them with logos? i think that would be bad. with logos, i thought the logos would be displayed under or in place of the call numbers for the station.

adding channel logos, imo, wouldn't get rid of numbers for channels.

Re: Channel Logos?

I would certainly welcome the ability to add channel logos.

No. Thats not what I ment. I figure if they add them then they would be added to whats there and just take up more room. I like it the way it is. I'm sure some people love them. I'd just want to point out that I hope it (if done) is an optional thing.

I'm all for more flexability in BTV.

and to dequire.
Ha Ha... Now that I reread what I wrote It makes me laugh too.

Re: Channel Logos?

I'd like to see it just like DirecTV does - with the logo next to the channel number. And I imagine all it would take is checkbox in configuration that says "Show Channel Logos"

Re: Channel Logos?

Channel Logos would be useful and would help the often-seen problem of having long station call signs truncated in the guide. At the moment anything that is longer than 10 characters I think is truncated making it hard to distinguish from "Paramount" and "Paramount 2" in the guide for example

During LiveTV viewing the callsign is truncated even smaller so I can barely tell BBC1 from BBC4!

Snapstream would probably leave us to sort out the getting of the logos but could supply a folder where we put them labelled as the channel callsign and then BTV just looks in there and matched them up. Simple!

What effects this would have on the speed of loading and navigating the guide would depend on how well compressed those images were and on how many channels you have.

An option to toggle them off would be a must for lower spec machines and those with hundreds of channels!
