when do remote recordings download?

when do remote recordings that i've created through Snapstream.net download to the HTPC? i want to know how much ahead i have to plan in order to get a recording started. if a show starts in two hours but BeyondTV only checks for recordings twice a day, i'm probably out of luck.

I don't have the answer, but I'm also a bit concerned about this. Has anyone started working on a project that lets you serve your own EPG (downloading program information from either Snapstream.NET or some other provider) and thereby "download" remote recordings immediately?

it's broken in v3.4 You'll want to either download manually or use the 3.5 beta. SS said they don't plan to fix it for 3.4

Merrypig: When you say it's broken in 3.4 do you mean for ALL users, or a small portion of users only?

As for the rest of the question, how often. From the KB:

Solution 1: Beyond TV is set to update remote recordings at intervals not to exceed 15 minutes. If you are making a remote recording that begins less than fifteen minutes from the time of scheduling, there is a possibility that Beyond TV will not pick up the recording.

If you are scheduling a remote recording that will start less than fifteen minutes from the time it was submitted via SnapStream.Net, you must manually update your Beyond TV server by accessing it through the Web Admin interface:

(* by default. This "Admin Port" can be changed through configuration. If you have modified this setting, substitute the correct "Admin Port" number in lieu of 8129)

Once you have accessed the Beyond TV server, go to:

WEB ADMIN --> CONFIGURE --> SNAPSTREAM.NET SETTINGS

and click the link entitled "Download Remote Recordings."



Solution 2: In order for your Beyond TV server to pick up recordings scheduled remotely via Snapstream.net, you must have a cookie set in your browser. On the remote machine, click the "My Account" link in the upper-right hand corner of the Snapstream.net page.

On the next page displayed, click the "Configure Remote Recordings" link.

On the next page displayed, check the button displayed. If this option is NOT correctly configured, the button will read "ADD Remote Recording Cookie." In that case, click on it. When correctly configured, this button will read "REMOVE Remote Recording Cookie," and recordings selected through snapstream.net will be sent to the server for later pickup, instead of downloaded.

I'm sure that for some ppl it works Eric - however I saw a huge number of complaints about it in the forums - and it was broken for me.

The remote recordings schedualled via the web site were never broken in 3.4. BTV checks every 15 Min I believe. If you sched your show at least 15min before it starts then it should record. Note that in 3.4 it gets the bottom priority. In 3.5 you can change this.

What was broken was the EPG download for a few of us myself included. When I was using 3.4 I had to tell it manually to download the EPG every few days or so. There was also a post about how to use the windows schedular to do it for you. That worked for me before I switched to using the beta.

Hmm, actually you're right I think Cal. I'm getting confused. 3.4 didn't download the epg. then at some point the 3.5 beta stopped doing one then the other and now appears to be working again.

I always would immediately open the web admin after setting up a remote recording and then tell BTV to download.
