Why is recompresseion limited to WMV only?

I was just wondering why the only available recompression (ShowSqueeze) option is WMV? I have many more CODECs installed on my machine, and would like to use them, both video and audio.
Is this a difficult thing to implement?

It isn't necessarily difficult to add support for ALL codecs, but it would be hard to provide tech support for everything. Once someone runs into a problem with codecX they would have to support them. Also if you use a software capture card you can record directly to WMV, Just think how much work it would be to test and work out all the issues with each different codec.

Hopefully we will see some more codecs in the future, but I would rather have 1 that works ALL the time well than dealing with issues that you can run into with others.

That makes sense. I remember when I was running Show Shifter, all the codecs available on the machine were available to record to... however getting a good combination of video and autio codecs to work properly, was another story... I wasted many hours trying different codecs. At least with BTV, you know that you don't have to dink around with a ton of settings.
