Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

I have a new Sony Vaio PC with an integrated video/tuner card, RADEON 9200, and Giga Pocket. I REALLY want to run BeyondTV instead of GigaPocket. Some info states that Giga Pocket systems are flattly not supported by BeyondTV, while other info says the RADEON 9200 is supported. But I don't see any recent posts.

The only video device that is available in the list when installing BeyondTV (and other capture s/w) is SMRT Capture, and the sound si SoundMAX. But I get no sound or video from these except in Giga Pocket. Is there anything I can do with this system to get BeyondTV to work?

Re: Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

The radeon is supported if it is an all in wonder device using ati's generic radeon driver / capture drivers. However more than likely you have a regular radeon graphics card and a sony gigapocket proprietary mpeg card. While the radeon card is supported for a graphics device the gigapocket card is proprietary and will not work with beyondtv. if you want to use beyondtv you would have to replace / add another tuner device (preferrably one supported by beyondtv wich you can see here: linky)

Re: Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

Thanks Robert! Good to know I'm not just nuts but sad to hear my native card won't work. This may be out of your game, but I'll ask and see. The Sony/Radeon card I have is wired up to composite video ports on both the front and back of the sysetm (both IN). Is this typical of the cards generally supported by BeyondTV? Its a nice feature card and if I replace the card it would be nice to preserve this.

Re: Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

Robert, one other related question. The Radeon 9200 in my system is the video card *and* TV tuner (itf I understand correctly). So if I replace it will I need a new video card too? Or will I need to leave the Radeon in the system and add a second TV tuner, such as the WinTV PVR 250?

Re: Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

if the tv tuner is integrated into the radeon card then you should be able to remove the sony drivers from the system then visit ati's website and download their MMC drivers/software and the generic radeon 9000 drivers and install them on that system with those installed the device should show up as a rage theatre capture in beyondtv's setup wizard

the above that I mentioned before was if the tuner was *seperate* from the video card (ie not a stock all in wonder card), however it sounds like yours is just a plain oem all in wonder device and it should indeed work with beyondtv providing you can use the generic MMC drivers/software with it.

Re: Sony Vaio w/ RADEON 9200

Sorry, I am incorrect about the tuner being integrated on the video card... I had not looked at it in a couple of weeks and thought I had remembered the details. I think I'll pop for the SnapStream PVR 250 pkg.
