Can BeyondTV help me?
I would like to stream live directv content over the internet. I am going to be out of the country with a highspeed internet connection and would like to be able to watch directv programming. I would also like to be able to change the channel over this internet connection.
If this is something that can be done with Beyond, is it simple to accomplish? Also, I already have several DirecTivo units at my house so I'm already spoiled with the season passes. Can I automatically record a directv broadcast like I can with Tivo and then stream it over the net? Lastly, what software and hardware do I need to make this work properly? Thanks, Brian |

Re: Can BeyondTV help me?
Yes, BTV can do this no problem (including changing channels), and has been able to do so since version 2.0 at least. BTV *almost* has Season passes, but currently the software will only record them on the same channel as the initial show. My understadnig is that this will change soon.
You'll need: a pretty fast computer - 2.4GHz or better. a *software* TV card (a hardware card like the PVR 250 wont work), liek the WinTV-PCI a USB-UIRT to control your DirectTV receiver. A fast internet connection for the BTV - 256K upload speed wont cut it very well - you'll want at least 512K or better.

Quote:
2. TV Card -- ATI All-In-Wonder which I use with other capture software (will this work?) 3. Need to get USB-UIRT 4. 2.5MB down and 231kb up according to dslreports.com. I have a cable modem. How can I get my speed up to 512 without putting in a fractional T1? Brian |

Re: Can BeyondTV help me?
1. Sweet.
2. Shoudl work fine, its just that many people have issue with the poor quality output and drivers of the AIW's. However, streaming over a low upload speed you shouldn't need to worry about quality. 3. Should be reasonable cheap. 4. Your down speed doesn't matter, but 256K upload probably wont cut it. With a 256 rated upload, and 231 useable, with retransmits you are looking at 200k effective upload speeds. Thats equivalent to about 320x240@15fps and a video bitrate of 168...not a whole lot. Comcast Pro service goes up to 384 up, or you could go (A|S)DSL. Speakeasy provides DSL with high uploads speeds and specifically allows servers.
