Audio issues

Hi all. I've been running BTV for several months now, and I've been pretty much happy all the way. I have one issue bothering me, which isn't a BTV issue as a general audio issue, and audio is not my forte.

I have an old receiver which my HTPC is plugged into for audio (receiver doesn't do any video switching - I need to upgrade). The input from the PC seems to be low, because I have to boost the receiver's volume when I'm listening to BTV versus my DVD player. But when I boost the volume, I get a hum in the background of my living room from the speakers when I'm not watching tv. If I turn off the PC the hum goes away, so it has to do with the PC and not just the receiver.

I am using the motherboard's onboard audio chip, which quality wise is fine for me. But is this the cause of the hum? Would switching to a sound blaster card remove this problem? I'd appreciate any help people can give, as this would greatly reduce the ambient noise levels of the PVR.

Same problem here. I'm getting a lot of static on BM - computer to receiver music playback. I've contacted the computer company and they said to try updating my audio drivers (machine is brand new), but that doesn't sound like the solution to me.
