Im going to assume that the machine running snapstream at your house is behind some sort of firewall/router to access that machine you will have to setup the router to forward the ports necessary to access snapstream: 8080, 8129, 1755 on tcp, you will also WANT to enable the security settings for snapstream otherwise people would have full access to the snapstream web server. once you have forwarding enabled you will be able to connect to the public ip address of the router/firewall that is given by your ISP. Please note that many ISPs block incoming ports and most user access agreements prevent you from running any type of server using the isp's network. Also the livetv streaming port (8080) does not function unless the remote viewing page has been started from the watch livetv page

no the computer at home is not behind a firewall or router....i was using internet connection sharing when i tried it on the other computer and it worked. I use comcast at home so i dont know if they block all the ports im trying to reach.

In your other part...the computer at home needs to be running the watch live tv for me to view it?

thanks for the help

andrew

no but ICS has a built in firewall and you would have to modify the settings to allow it to forward the ports. the problem is that if snapstream isnt running on the machine running ICS than it is very hard to do port forwarding because ICS uses DHCP and can give out different ip addresses to the internal boxes.

No it doesnt have to be running on both ends.

to view livetv using media player you can connect media player by going file open url:

mms://ip.address.of.computer:8080

and it will start playing the livetv stream, but the livetv stream is only running when the watch page is accessed or when the machine is doing a recording, otherwise the server is not running.

if snapstream isnt running on the machine with ICS then if you disable ICS it will prevent any computer on the outside from accessing the internal computers and the internal computers wont be able to access the internet. setting up ICS to forward ports isnt too difficult but it depends on the operating system, and how you have the machines inside the network setup.

ok then all you have to do is either run home and setup ICS to forward the 3 ports thru its built in firewall i listed above or have someone else at home do it. i would give you specific instructions but i havent done it in a while and dont remember how. im sure there is a guide on the internet somewhere

livetv uses port 8080 to do streaming, most isp's will block this port because it is the alternate port for web servers and proxy servers. you can try to change the livetv streaming port in the web admin to something other than 8080 and see if that works.
