where did the settings backup/restore buttons go?

I was reading up on how to move a BTV server installation to another machine and see the references to backing up settings, e.g. here.

But on my 4.9.2 installation, the About Beyond TV box doesn't have the Backup and Restore buttons, only the Upload button.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Did 4.9.2 remove that functionality or put it somewhere else?

That is where it should be. It is on mine, don't know what to tell you.

Here is a screen shot from my system just so we are sure you talking about the right screen

Re: where did the settings backup/restore buttons go?

The about box for the task bar icon has the backup and restore options.

The about box for the viewscape does not.

Ah, that must be the difference.

Unfortunately, I don't have a task bar icon. I guess that may be because I have the BTV services setup to run as system services rather than being tied to a user.

Re: where did the settings backup/restore buttons go?

Yep, that's likely the problem. Try running it as an application long enough to do the backup.

You can always launch BTVAgent2.exe even in service mode. It will hook up with the background services and give you the appropriate task bar icon.

Re: where did the settings backup/restore buttons go?

Just a word of caution... While I have used this feature several times in the past, it recently failed for me (4.9.2) when I backed up the settings under Vista, installed Windows 7 and tried to restore. As you can imagine, it takes quite a while to remember all of your scheduled jobs and tweak every setting manually again. You may want to print off your scheduled recording list just in case.

I second this, I did the same thing, but going from 32 to 64 bit, messed up a lot of things. I still don't think it is right. But you can make a backup and do this with the backup.

These are the files you want to take from your backup:

BlockedRecordings.xml = blocked recordings
ForcedRecordings = forced recordings
Jobs.xml = recording schedule
RecentRecordings.xml = recording history
SavedGuideSearches.xml = Saved guide searches (this file isn't present if you don't have any saved guide searches)

Then just add them into your new install. All your info should be there. using the backup then restore on different operating systems and computers can be bad, very bad.
