QAM Mapping

BTV 4.9.1 and my HVR 1600 scanned my cable and found lots of clear QAM channels, but the mapping process is tedious and driving my crazy !

Q1) Has anyone mapped all of the clear QAM channels for Brighthouse Livonia MI and can post the list ?

Q2) Is there any way I can look at the full screen channels (not just the little box on the left), make a list by hand and come back later and update the map ?

Man there has to be a better solution !

Re: QAM Mapping

I just the other day started messing with QAM here in Riverside, CA (Charter), and I agree with you 100%: it's a freakin' nightmare.

Q3) The OTA sub channels sho up, but there is nothing to map them to ! What do you do with them ?

Man there has to be a better solution !

Upgrade to 4.9.2 because it fixes some QAM stuff. Particularly, it accurately tells you if a channel is HD or not.

Create a spreadsheet of your mapped channels.

Don't expect success in later editing, because its hit or miss. if you need to edit your channel mapping, create new mapping. Edited mapping unexpectedly drops channels occasionally.

Q2 No.

Q3 I map channels to the known channel numbers. This results in QAM channels having the same channel numbers as the analog channels. So, if you have both QAM and analog tuners, and you have access to both, if your QAM mapped tuner is busy you will get the program in analog. For example, channel 7 for me is local ABC. It is HD on my lineup. I map 86.3 (or whatever it is on QAM) to channel 7.

In web admin I prioritize the QAM tuners ahead of the analog.
My analog tuners will pick up 7 if the QAM tuners are busy.

My ATSC also gets channel 7 as 1071. Its not possible to stack ATSC with QAM and analog. I use the ATSC when I need it but I must schedule that channel.

Re: QAM Mapping

Yeah, the BTV QAM mapping is really lacking. I recently got a Tivo (so I could run cable card) and the Tivo's mapping is so much easier ... In pretty much every other way, I like the Beyond TV more, but QAM mapping and lack of cable card support is really ruining my BTV experience.
