HVR-1600 Remote stops working, only works again after setup rerun!

I need to figure out why my HVR-1600 remote stops working after every reboot. All I have to do to get it running again is to run setup not changing anything and it works again. Any ideas? I just installed Beyond TV on a NEW install of Windows 7 64 bit.

Re: HVR-1600 Remote stops working, only works again after setup rerun!

I'm running into the same problem with the remote after I upgraded my system with Windows 7 64-bit.

I also have a problem with the my two HVR-1600 tuners. The analog tuners work, but the ATSC tuners are flaky - losing signal, resulting in interrupted recordings. Also, even though setup recognized the ATSC tuners, trying to watch ATSC stations resulted in this message:

"Beyond TV could not find the video capture device "[NAME]". If this is an external capture device, please ensure that it is connected to the system and receiving power. If you have recently updated any related drivers, you may need to rerun the Setup Wizard to correctly reconfigure the system."

I thought I resolved the problem by running BeyondTV in compatibility mode (XP SP3). I could watch the ATSC channels, but half of my recordings failed partway through, with this message:

"We're sorry, but Beyond TV encountered multiple interruptions from your capture card while trying to record. Beyond TV does not attempt to restart a recording if more than [NUMBER] interruptions are encountered"

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Did you get the new windows 7 64 bit drivers from Haupauge? Just download the drivers only.

My cards work fine under 64 bit windows 7. Its the remote that keeps loosing settings. And hopefully you didn't backup your system on a 32 bit system and then restore it onto a 64, That causes all kinds of problems. Trust me.

Re: HVR-1600 Remote stops working, only works again after setup rerun!

JUst out of curiosity, why are you trying to run an application that the vendor clearly states is not supported on 64-bit on W7 x64?

I've run both x86 and x64 on W7 on the same machine and the performance difference isn't noticeable.

Maybe because that's what we have on our machines out of the box.

It's becoming a bit more difficult to find pre-fab machines running 32-bit Windows these days (or if you find them, they're either machines you don't want because they're older, or they're more expensive because they're not the volume models anymore).

Hm...some info I've seen out there suggests that OEM Windows 7 keys can work for either x86 or x64 versions so that might be worth a try if I can't get BTV working on my Win7 x64 machine.

Re: HVR-1600 Remote stops working, only works again after setup rerun!

it sounds like a possible issue with UAC

Vista had that issue, it's because the IR Blaster's file that holds the information is located in the windows directory and it doesn't like to be modified.

Try turning UAC down and see whether it makes a difference.

For a couple of reasons:
  1. I'd like to put more memory (>= 4GB) on my system, as I use it as the home central server and run virtual machines for other purposes.
  2. Would like to be ahead of the game, perhaps because I optimistically (silly me) assume that SnapStream would be providing support for 64-bit as it is becoming more mainstream.

I did a clean OS build and Windows 7 automatically downloaded and installed the current drivers for the Hauppauge tuners.

When you say backup, do you mean backing up the settings via BeyondTV? I did that, but how else could I (safely) restore my BeyondTV settings?

I might try that. However, the remote works fine with Windows Media Center. The problem seems to be isolated to BeyondTV. And on that note, my issue with the HVR-1600 tuners and BeyondTV is non-existent with Windows Media Center. That is, MC has no problem recognizing both the analog and ATSC tuners.

I'd say it already is mainstream. When I walk down the aisle at a warehouse club and see all of the desktop systems pre-installed with 64-bit Windows, that should tell Snapstream something.

I suppose though that the message they've received is that WMC is preinstalled on all these boxes and it isn't totally horrible (especially with Windows 7) and with the ever shrinking Clear QAM digital and analog cable channel availability, there's no market for BeyondTV.

That can't be it, otherwise, there'd be no reason for this comparison page to exist.

I'd say that with all this hand wringing over the OS, SS made the right call to back away from the consumer development until they can afford to go forward. There is no clear reason to change what works until they are forced to, to survive.

Doesn't make a difference. It was working fine on Windows 7 RC, But now on a real install of windows 7 it doesn't. Kind of weird. Still haven't fixed it.

Don't ever use the ones that Microsoft tries to use. Install the new ones from Haupauge.
