computer crash-can't reinstall BTV

My old computer, which I keep around for BTV and a couple of other things, crashed this weekend. After trying to save it for a while, I wiped the hard drive and started over. Everything went well enough until I got to reinstalling BTV. I downloaded the installer and ran it. When it got to the dot net framework files, it downloaded them and then gave me an error about being unable to extract the files (didn't say which one..I believe there are three?). The installer went on and, later, gave me an error about "decoder verifier failed to initialize". Not sure if that is a related problem or independent.

Tried again with the same results. I noticed, on subsequent attempts, that the 'downloading' of the dot net files was instantaneous, which mean, of course, that they are stored somewhere on my drive. On the theory that it downloaded bad files, I have been trying to find them and delete them to, hopefully, force them to re-download. So far, no luck.

I installed SP2 before doing all this, but not all the misc updates. I wonder if that might be the problem?

Any suggestions? I started a service ticket, but I hate going without my BTV. Been using it for five years now!

Re: computer crash-can't reinstall BTV

making a little headway. not much.

I allowed my computer to download and install every update it wanted to. 47 in all. tried BTV install again with the same results.

so i have been trying to install the dot net framework 2 thru 3.5 myself. Turns out the reason that I was not able to install these myself before was because the IIS service was not installed. Okay. Installed that. Installed dot net 2.0. Tried to install 3, but the installer fails after 8 or 9 meg of downloading and says that it could not download all the necessary files. Tried this several times with the same result.

so I moved on to 3.5 SP1. According to the microsoft web page, this should cover everything prior, so I tried to install it. Got the same thing. Quits and tells me it cant get the necessary files.

Just for grins, after installing umpteen updates and dot net 2.0, I tried the BTV installer again. Got the same error. failed to extract the files.

So, I am now dead in the water unless the snapstream techs have a suggestion.

Re: computer crash-can't reinstall BTV

You don't need the IIS service. I've never run it. Doesn't even exist on XP Home and BTV runs fine on Home.

Something else is funky.

Personally, I'd start over with a full format.

Exclamation Re: computer crash-can't reinstall BTV

Just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When reinstalling BTV 4.9.2. when it comes to downloading the updates it seems like it is looping over and over the same updates. I've let it run a couple of hours and it doesn't finish so BTV doesn't install. Why is it doing that?

I can watch HDTV on Media Center without any problems and it only took several seconds to update and setup.

I also can use the Firefly remote with Media Center.
