Playback Quality Not As Good As Live TV

I use an HDHomeRun to record hi-def programs. My problem is that the recording quality is never as good as the live hd program. Any ideas as to how I can "tweak" BTV so that the playback quality of recorded hd programs is as good as the live tv picture?

MPEG2 Decoder? That makes the biggest difference in picture quality.

I was using the Snapstream Video/SP decoder and that wasn't doing well so I downloaded and switched the the nVidia video decoder and that is not working well either. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Is it OTA or QAM?

Re: Playback Quality Not As Good As Live TV

are you ShowSqueezing the recordings?

As the shows are just being transported to your computer, so there should be no difference in quality.

Re: Playback Quality Not As Good As Live TV

For the Purevideo decoder, you can access the video controls from the system tray while the video is playing (hit Alt - Enter if you are in fullscreen for BTV).
What exactly is the difference you are seeing? Poor color? Pixelation? Interlacing? Blurriness?

I mean have you physically moved the connection so you are looking at the same feed and not another split of the feed. That's to eliminate any loss in signal due to the splitters, couplers, etc.

The problem isn't when I'm watching "live" TV through the HDHomeRun. When I do that the picture is fine. It's during playback that the picture is not as good as the live feed.

Ok, so here's the deal...I watched a recorded version of the evening news with Brian Williams tonight BEFORE BTV showsqueezed the video and the picture was GREAT, just like watching live. Therefore, it must be the showqueezing that's causing the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Use the HD profiles for Showsqueeze.

Re: Playback Quality Not As Good As Live TV

In the BTV Web Admin, under Settings - Basic Settings - ShowSqueeze. I use DivX HD (High) for my ClearQAM HD recordings and it works great.
