It has been a couple of years since I read the regulation and resulting interpretations of it, but at the time the prevailing interpretation was that they had to pass through EVERYTHING. If you could get their HD transmission over the air, they had to provide the HD version over their cable in the clear. It did not explicitly stop them from playing games like re-mapping the channels every week to screw up your tuner, but it did require them to provide the channel.

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

I've read the posts above and I'm not sure I understand the BeyondTV problems with the now all DTV lineup UNLESS the channel provider did not remap the new channels properly. I am in the Detroit, MI area and the FOX 2 dtv channel went from UHF 58 to VHF 7. My scan using BeyondTV setup wizard shows NO signal for channel 1201 (OTA 2-1). Is there any way to force a switch from channel 58 to channel 7?

Yes. As I said before, see this thread on how to fix it by manually creating a custom channel lineup.

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

Yeah sure... you can get the channels but the guide doesn't match so basically you can watch "live" TV or perform a manual recording. Woop. I know Snapstream uses a 3rd party for the channel lineup but still... You'd think that living in Houston would have it's advantages since Snapstream is juts on the other side of town from my house.

Apparently not.

You are not correct. If you follow the instructions in the other thread and force a guide update after assigning the custom channel lineup, the new channel mappings are sent down with the guide so they match up, and previously (and subsequently) defined recording tasks work flawlessly. I don't know why you think that it only works for manual recording.

This works for me 1500 miles from Houston, and I would expect it to work across the street also.

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

I am also in Houston, and a bit miffed that the channel mappings hasn't updated yet (I have forced guide download a few times). I don't feel like doing manual channel mappings. That would mean finding out what the new frequencies are for the channels that have moved. I'm too lazy for that, and it shouldn't be necessary. I don't have anything important scheduled to record for a while anyways, except some kid shows tomorrow (Saturday).

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

I too am in Houston and before yesterday I was receiving good HD signals using my inside small antenna (the one that came with the HDTV5 RTGOLD). Now it seems that all the signals are somewhat weaker and will not map. I am located nearly 25 miles from Missouri City (the locations of the transmitters). The funny thing is I can hook up my analog rooftop antenna and watch all the HD channels (most are 100%) on the Fusion HD program, but can map only one channel using BTV. Am I missing something??

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

Well I still don't really understand my channel 2-1 which is still 2-1 apparently moved frequencies (yet it remains 2-1). I had to rescan on all my TVs to pick up the station however Snapstream has changed. Tried several times to do a manual guide update and it keeps failing:

Error Code: 17
6/13/2009 7:04:46 PM
Data download from SnapStream.Net failed.

It's a good thing I don't have a single thing set to record (on any HD channels) for the next 2 weeks.

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

Try here, (hdhomerun/channels - Silicondust) see if this gives you the updated channels, it's more for QAM, but I think it's more up to date then Antennaweb.org, or Antennapoint.com.

Haven't been able to force my custom changes, I see it on snapstream.net lite, but in the setup wizard it's not listed or when I go through Web Admin. I only see the defualt Digital OTA lineup. I'm running late, will try tomorrow, again. Don't expect any guide updates from zap2it until at least Monday!

Thanx for Philly line-up...

Lineup Change Detection and Allow Automatic Updates; Do we need to disable this in WebAdmin?

In Boston, WHDH moved from 42 to 7 (where their previous analog broadcast was). Zap2It hasn't noticed.

Is there a way to inform Zap2It that they have an error?

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

I live in Phoenix as well. Channel 10, 12 and 15 are re-mapped, I did a manual scan and got them all, but no guide data. How can I incorporate the guide data?

Re: Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

For those of you still struggling to figure out what the carrier channels are for recently relocated stations in your area, try AntennaWeb and click the "Choose an antenna" button and enter your zip code.

Some months ago they added a column that shows the post-transition RF carrier channel. As of this weekend, that column is now the default display.

Once you get that for your zip code, select "digital stations only" and print the list. Then follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread that tell you how to go to snapstream.net to create your custom lineup. (that is, go to Setting up a Digital Converter Box - SnapStream Knowledgebase). Even if you don't use a converter box, it explains custom lineups for tuner cards.

It took me about 5 minutes total to create and save my custom lineup, then another 10 minutes to run the BTV setup wizard and tell it to download the new lineup for my tuner source. After that go into BTV settings and tell it to download fresh guide data.

thanks, I am going to follow the instructions and get my channels fixed. i am in the dc area and now wjla abc is mapped wrong. a manual scan finds it but the snapstream lineup must have it at the wrong frequency because it has a signal of 0 after friday.

Updating to 4.9.2, didn't realize I was behind by 2 releases! I hope there's just a small bug in the 4.9.0 version. I manually adjusted but when I download the guide, the new manual channel line-up doesn't show up in web admon or in the wizard!

I have followed the instructions, and still, the main issue is I do not see my new manually updated lineup! Please Snake go back and make sure you didn't leave something out. Or someone else suggest where I messed up!

*Still no luck with 4.9.2* Even delete the lineups/sources in the wizard and snapstream.net doesn't update it! It stays blank!

One thing to remember - the channel guide will remain blank when installing a new version until it successfully completes its first guide data download.
