Vista Media Center and BTV

I am trying to set up Windows Media Center on my computer. I am a longtime user of BTV. I want to use both HDHomeRun and BTV on my computer. WMC will not "see" my new HDHomeRun tuner. I am wondering if BTV and/or the PVR-250 could be blocking WMC from seeing the tuner. WMC on my wife's computer (same network), has no problems finding the HDHomeRun tuner. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Vista Media Center and BTV

While I have never had that problem with the three HDHR boxes we have at home, I remember reading that sometimes the Windows firewall does not get set correctly by the HDHR installation program. The suggestion I read was to manually go into the firewall settings and allow the HDHR software. Another suggestion was to uninstall and then reinstall the HDHR software and hope that this will fix the firewall.

Bye.

Thanks for the reply. I use Norton 360 not Windows Firewall. I know that Norton can really screw things up. I believe I already uninstalled and reinstalled the HDHR software but I'll try again. Any idea exactly what HDHR disables in Window Firewall. I'll do the same thing in Norton 360.

It may be a matter of telling Norton to allow the HDHR software to bypass any firewall it has set up. The Windows firewall has such a setting.

Bye.

So here's the deal. There was a service that VMC that was not starting for some reason and that was what was causing VMC to "say" it couldn't find a tuner. I was able to start the service and I have got VMC to work with HDHR, however, this is what I would like to do.

1. Use BTV to record most of the shows that I want to watch on my computer.
1. Use VMC to allow me to watch TV on my iPhone using orb.

The small problem is that VMC knocks out my Hauppauge 250. Therefore, I will have to use one of the HDHR tuners for BTV and one of the HDHR tuners for VMC. It also means that the money I spent on a IR blaster is now wasted as I don't have to use my cable box with BTV which I have done for years. Does all of this make sense to you? I am correct in that VMC knocks out the Happauge even though I using the different tuners in HDHR for each program respectively?
