How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

It looks like Zap2It is getting a little ahead of themselves, and starting to change the OTA lineups for the DTV transition now. They are a little late relative to Feb 17 and a lot early relative to June 12.

In any case, what's happening is that they are changing the physical broadcast frequency from what it currently is to what it will be on June 12. Then, when you attempt to record something, BTV is tuning to the wrong frequency and you get nothing/nada/zippo!

The easiest fix is to create a Custom Lineup for all of your OTA programs. During the process, you will be able to set the broadcast frequency back to what it currently is. The channel frequency in a Custom Lineup is not subject to automatic guide updates. Come June 12, you can either go back to a regular (automatic) lineup or recreate your Custom Lineup. As someone else said in another thread, TV stations rarely (if ever) change their broadcast frequency (exception: June 12 DTV transition) so a Custom Lineup should be good for a very long time.

So here's how to fix it.

1. Go to: http://www.snapstream.net/configure/CustomLineupWizard.aspx

2. Enter a "Friendly Name" and make sure the "Lineup Type" is set to "ATSC".

3. Click on the Import Channels button on the top left.

4. Chose your Country and click Next.

5. Enter your Zip Code and click Next.

6. Select Antenna (Digital).

7. Click Finish

8. Check all of the channels you receive OTA for which you want to receive Guide Data and then click "Import" at the bottom of the page.

9. For the channels that don't work, correct the column labeled "Physical Channel" to be what the current broadcast frequency is. For me, WLOS (old analog channel 13) currently broadcasts on channel 56 (digital) but will switch to 13 (digital) on June 12. The BTV guide service recently changed the broadcast frequency from 56 to 13 (digital), which won't happen until June 12. So, in the "Physical Channel" column for WLOS, I changed the 13 back to 56.

10. Click on "Save and Exit". Keep in mind you are only allowed 4 lineups so be sure you have 3 or less before you create a new one.

11. Shut down BTV and run the configuration wizard changing the lineup associated with your tuner(s) to the newly created guide (the friendly name you gave it in step 2). I deleted all of the tuner sources and redefined them, pointing to the new guide. I don't know if that was necessary or not but it worked for me.

12. Restart BTV and force a guide update.

All of your channels should now be working.

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

I hope the administrators "stick" this to the top of a couple of forums. I have been answering this with a canned response very much like this.

I only have OTA digital and I did not need to restart BTV or rescan. I just went into the WebAdmin, forced a guide download and attached the new (corrected) lineup to my tuners.

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

Ok, I looked around the Web admin and I don't see how to force a guide download and attached a different lineup. Can you give me a hint?

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

Settings->Basic Settings->SnapStream.net settings -- click on "Download Program Guide Information" - wait for the download to complete and merge data

Settings->Basic Settings->Audio and Video Inputs -- Click on "Edit Settings" on a tuner. There is a Channel lineup pop-up list.

WARNING - I believe that saving the change to the tuner lineup resets ALL tuners. Make sure that nothing is recording on any tuner.

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

This topic DEFINITELY needs to be stickied, especially today. Unless Zap2it gets all of the channel assignments correct at precisely the correct time throughout North America, there are going to be thousands of people who lose some or all of their OTA channels today and may need to follow this procedure to restore them. I know that in Philly, channels 10 and 12 are changing their frequencies at changeover.

By the way, Philly is still transmitting analog as of this morning, so someone forgot to flip the switch last night.

Thumbs up Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

this whole 'day' approach is a mess - I have channels switching at various times from 130 am to the absolute latest they can (near midnight friday). but in most cases only a few of the channels will be changing frequency. for me, between dayton and cincinnati, only one has changed, channel 12 (CBS and CinCW). Of course murphy wins again as the lineup is not corrected.

thanks for the bump on this post!

how long does it take?

curious interactions between local lineup changes and those done on the site. it seems to be random how long before the wizard sees this, and wizard deletions can result in loss of the custom lineup.
I'm in the home stretch now, fingers crossed...

thanks!

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

Got It. Curiously, my HVR-1800 did not 'see' the new VHF instance of CBS ch 12 but my AVerMedia Duets did. Go figure...

Good luck out there!

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

Philadelphia channels 6, 10, and 17 did not update for me. Anyone know the new channel RF frequency? On these channels I get 0% signal, while the other channels show at 100%.

*Delted* Didn't realize that web adress is not Web Admin, but instead snapstreamlite.net settings. Keep getting error 17 trying to download my custom guide!

Still new to this. Is there a site to get upto date channel info? *Update* Found this, seems correct! http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels_us (It's for QAM, but worked)

But I did find an autoscan, going through setup wizard. Running it now! Get the right channels, but no guide this way!

*Update*

Checking quality on newly autoscanned channels and It found the signal for all the channels, all near or at 100%. If I use the Zap2it lineup aka Beyonds defualt, it doesn't find a signal for those channels that changed!

Deleted, below.... off topic!

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

maybe they will find some round tuits and get it fixed. I can live with the solution from the first post above (versus the manual scan without listings) so I am not griping.

I picked up a new channel as well, just as the folks at antennweb.org had predicted.

The exact answer to your problem is found here:

Beyond TV and the Digital Transition - June 12th, 2009

Use the channel mappings I gave in my message, along with the procedure shown in the first two messages of this thread. Note that message #2 points out that you don't need to run setup if you use WebAdmin.

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

I have 6 stations that changed freq. yesterday. The currnet channel line up is not reflecting theses changes and thus is not recording. After reading other posts on this site I am not sure when Zip2It will get them updated.

I tried followed the above instructions and created a custom channel line up named "DTV 2009 RDU Channels". I have gone to the basic settings and updated the guide. Then closed BTV and started the BTV setup wizard. I do not see where I can assign the new channel line up to my SliconDust tuners. How do I get the new line up from Snapstream.net to my system?

Thanks,
Don

Re: How to Fix Incorrect OTA Lineup Changes from Snapstream

Is there any other way to re-scan all channels besides going through the initial setup wizard?

Thanks
