Question Hauppauge 2250

I'm confused by the specs of the Hauppauge HVR-2250. It says this:
Watch and record two TV programs at the same time:
two analog cable TV channels,
two digital TV channels
or one analog cable and one clear QAM digital cable TV channel.
Two analog channels I understand. But what's the difference between a digital channel and a clear QAM digital channel?

Thanks

Re: Hauppauge 2250

This card can capture either analog or digital channels. You obviously get that part.

The digital channels can be either over-the-air (ATSC) or cable (clear-QAM). I suspect that someone in the marketing department edited that last line at the last minute to try to point out that the card will do clear-QAM. In so doing, they left some room for confusion, and you stepped right into it.

In any case, the card can capture two programs at the same time. Sources can be analog or digital, and digital sources can be OTA or clear-QAM.

Re: Hauppauge 2250

If they had changed this:
"two digital TV channels"

to this:
"two clear QAM digital cable TV channels"

then everything would make sense.

Re: Hauppauge 2250

Remember, the 2250 only has a SINGLE video input (the other coax input is FM)! This means one can do either OTA OR cable, but not both at the same time.

OTA antenna - 2 digital, 2 analog, or 1 of each
Cable - 2 clear QAM, 2 analog, or 1 of each

Out 2250 is setup with the antenna, configured for 2 digital (ATSC) tuners. It works great.

Re: Hauppauge 2250

The consensus is that the web site is wrong and the card works as expected, recording two channels at a time, be they either from ATSC or cable ("or" being significant, as the card has only one RF video input).

I laughed at your comment rothe - that someone in marketing made a last minute change to the web site. It's funny because it's wrong, and yet it is still incorrect on the site. A long time ago, one of the promises of the Internet and the web was that we would have up-to-date information. I guess maybe no one told Hauppauge that it was possible to make changes to their content (the alternative is that they either didn't notice the problem, or they don't care)

Thanks.

Re: Hauppauge 2250

I guess having a single input on the 2250 is an issue for those that are using Cable & OTA. For me it's great since I can feed two tuners with 1 cable. I have learned that cheap splitters really degrade your signal, quality splitter/amplifiers are expensive. Hauppauge should correct their web site on the details.
