Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

i can't wait until a pci-e hd pvr card is available...i will jump on that when it first comes out. this whole 'didn't record, have to restart the hd pvr' is getting old.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

But that assumes it won't have errors, if an internal card locks up, that usually means a computer reboot. Restarting the USB device is much simpler.

However, I agree, I'd rather have an internal card, assuming you have proper power supply and cooling, far less redundant circuitry so cost should be lower. Hopefully it has its own power connection as well. Assuming of course it's reliable...

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

i asked hauppauge if it was in there plans to develop one, and the reply i got said it was not on the 2009 agenda at all. i believe the rebooting issues stem from the fact that it IS usb...as I have other usb devices (SMARTBOARD) that does the exact same thing

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

It is my routine now to just reboot the thing about every 3-4 days before I goto work even if there are no errors. Since I started doing that I've only had one corrupted recording which was just the Daily Show so no big deal.

I would love to get a PCIe solution. Stick it on a card that has a standard tuner, digital, and analog HD capture. a x4 slot would have plenty of bandwidth to spare.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

I like external capture cards to keep the heat out of the PC chassis and to spread out the cables making them easier to manage... But I'd just be happy with an HD capture solution that worked. Internal, external, it could be pink with pictures of prancing ponies all over it for all I care, just as long as it works.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

for those of you with Time Warner Cable boxes, they often send updates that make the box reboot. I asked a tech about that since mine were doing it a lot for a couple weeks, and he said they had a bad update go out, so they were sending a bunch of updates.

When you install CoreAVC, it shows up automatically in BTV?

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

is there any way or codec to get hardware accelerated on playback?? I'm asking b/c I've installed the Arcsoft TMT that comes with it, and also has PowerDVD installed. both codec show up in BTV playback H.264 setting; however, none of them play as smooth as the Snapstream H.264 codec. but the Snapstream H.264 codec doesn't support HA from GPU...... even tho I have no problem for playback on all of my HTPCs (E6600 to E8400), but I'm hoping that I could build a low power HTPC client in the future (something like using a 9400m powered MacMini or Ion platform), w/out HA, those will have no chances for playing back H.264......

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

You should get HW Acceleration using ArcSoft and Powerdvd 8 or higher when you have the appropriate hardware and drivers installed. You also need WinXP as BTV doesnt support Vista properly yet.

You don't list your video cards so we can't really say if they support H.264 offload or not.

the hardware spec in @ my sig. the bedroom client is running XP Pro SP3, while the rest is running Vista.

all of them have HA on H.264, and I've confirmed from my Bluray backup. the only codec that has smooth playback for me is Snapstream's. both Arcsoft and PowerDVD7 codec give me shutter playback on fast motion (e.g. sport).

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

Ok, well from what you say the bedroom will be the only one capable of H.264 HW Accel under BTV.

Did you perform all the same testing on this machine? Double check you have the latest catalyst and DX, give it a whirl. It should work. You can always play with the overlay/3D-mode to see if that helps.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

I have a Radeon 3450 and use the PowerDVD 8 decoder and have hardware acceleration on playback. CPU load is usually less than 10%. Have you tried the PowerDVD8 decoder versus the PowerDVD7 one? I run it all on XP SP3. The only problem that I have is every once in a while the picture gets sort of out of synch - usually pausing and skipping back clears up the problem (this happens in both Live TV and in playback). This is a minor annoyance that I can live with. I maintain a recorded movie library on a separate external drive and I use PowerDVD 8 to playback these files without any problems at all and with HA.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

all 3 of the HTPC have HA enable. G45 chipset, NV 9400 chipset, and 2600Pro! and it's confirmed HA is working from playing Bluray movie w/ 5% CPU usage.

I've also tried overlay/3D setting, doesn't help. in fact, overlay gives me more stable, smoother playback.

Re: Hauppauge HD-PVR support

I've had a new issue pop up in the last month (started around end of March). The files drop about 2 seconds of recording then play 5 seconds then drop 2 seconds. The end result is unwatchable.

It confuses me because my setup hasn't changed in three months but now I'm trolling the net to find replacements of corrupt recordings.

The problem isn't consistant either. I can go for a week without it then all the recordings on one day will be screwed.

I searched and some claim it only happens at 720p but why is this a new thing for me? I've went nearly 3 full months with just two hangs. I've never updated the drivers or firmware so for the hell of it I did so today. I'll see if that fixes it.
